“The firing, done only for financial reasons, would be shocking — except that it isn’t. Legacy media such as newspapers, television and radio continue to see their audiences shrink and change… The result is a shattering of communal gathering experiences. We exist largely in silos of information that often turn into echo chambers. The world of sports media has been slivered into endless, mostly unlistenable, podcasts, AI-generated search results, streaming services you might not want to buy, too much content created by inexperienced and unreliable outlets.” Ann Killion of the San Francisco Chronicle highlighting the painful realities behind CUMULUS MEDIA’s major shakeup effecting not only one of the markets top-voices in Sports Radio for nearly 3 decades in Tom Tolbert - but also several longtime Industry Professionals who kept KNBR 680/1050 shows and programming a fixture on the West Coast dial. In a separate move – the Company has also changed the formatting drastically of two iconic stations – KSFO 560 and KGO 810 - going from Bay Area news/sports/weather/insights to national programming headlined by grievance and fear with only occasional local traffic reports. Terrestrial Radio for me is a mental getaway at times and I have always appreciated the many local Professionals who bring this service and medium to thousands around them each day. 📻”Give us 22 minutes and we’ll give you the world…” 🎙️That is the tagline of WCBS 880 and unfortunately it will be a thing of the past. 😢After 60 years of informing the tri-state area of all the breaking news, they’ll cease operations. ⚾️I have fond memories as a kid in my dad’s car switching back and forth between 880AM for traffic and weather on the 8’s on the way to Yankees games and 660AM to hear what maniacal thing Jerome in Manhattan or other callers had to say about the Yankees. 🫡 Regardless of how far technology advances and what hologram robot AI machine can fly you to the moon, do your taxes, and then clean your toilet, I still feel radio has a home. 🎙️The singular voice coming over the airwaves notifying you of information, presenting discussion, or broadcasting live events is what we need more of. Not the explosion of information at a rate your brain can’t fully comprehend it all. You know like we’re used to. 🎧Sad to see it go. Watching an old institution disappear into the wind is just another indication that the times they are a changing. https://lnkd.in/g-GCwfxw #productioncompany #commercialproduction #radioimaging #creativedirector #creativeproducer #advertising #marketing #elearning #elearningdevelopment #marketingagency #narration #marketingexecutive #castingdirector #creativeservices #commercialproduction #commercialdirector #radioadvertising #radiomarketing #marketingmanager #newyork #newyorkcity #tristatearea #newyorkradio #casting #audioengineer #accountexecutive

🧐 How can #PublicBroadcasters create a digital space crafted specifically for open, informative, and safe discussions? This is the question driving the Public Spaces Incubator, a joint initiative from CBC/Radio-Canada, ZDF, RTBF and SRG SSR as well as New_ Public, which was launched last year. The group have now unveiled a number of innovative concepts which could be applied to the broadcasters' websites, apps and other digital platforms to stimulate public connection and conversation. ✅ For example, one concept is the comments slider, where people can see opinions from across the spectrum, rather than a binary like/dislike... 💭 "This is the unique and innovative role of public service media — to advance media experiences for our audiences in ways that support democratic discourse." – Catherine Tait, CEO and President of CBC/Radio-Canada.
