In 2017, William Gibson ventured beyond his usual boundaries. Being a relatively new recruit as a safety specialist at Del-Co Water Company Inc., he was given the responsibility of overseeing the safety protocols of an expanding company. Despite his initial lack of extensive experience, his dedication to employee well-being and sharp observational abilities propelled him into a journey of significant learning. During an EHS Today Safety Leadership Conference, William recounted his experiences. He highlighted the importance of adopting a forward-thinking mindset to foresee potential risks and establish clear safety objectives. He stressed the necessity of preparing for the worst-case scenarios and utilizing technology to minimize dangers. However, what truly made an impact was his method of personalizing safety measures and making them more approachable. 👉 To discover more about his path to proactive safety management, click here: https://gag.gl/TOXP8o

1- Engage ( build trust ) 2- simplify ( create understandable framework ) 3- felt leadership ( Demonstrate leadership in word and deed )
This week, we had the pleasure of speaking with Rodrigo Gomes, PhD, VP OSH Risk Governance and Assurance at TK Elevator, who shared some insights into safety and its evolving landscape, and the transformative power of effective safety management and leadership. With over 20 years working for TK elevator across many functions, he comes with the unique perspective of a decentralised workplace, tackling the challenges of a scattered operational environment and how important it is to empower workers to take decisive actions for their safety. One thing that really stood out was Rodrigo's emphasis on "felt leadership", and all that it encapsulates. ▷ Engagement and trust building genuine trust across every level is fundamental ▷ Simplicity in process Ensuring processes are straightforward and easy to understand at all levels in the organisation ▷ Visible and consistent leadership Demonstrating integrity through consistent actions and words Rodrigo’s knowledgeable perspective, anchored in years of experience and strong academic research background, is invaluable in driving forward a culture of safety and productivity. A “directing safety culture” that drives the expectations for Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost improvements starts with good written procedures. Any organisation with ongoing lifting operations should have a procedure available; it should be adequate to address and control all foreseeable incidents/consequences; and it should be implemented and enforced by all levels of Leadership.

IN-COUNTRY CONTRACTORS SAFETY FORUM Once again had the privilege to attend the 3rd joint Contractors Safety Forum alongside senior business leaders from leading contractors supporting various TE energy projects in Angola. These forums provide a unique opportunity for senior business leaders & their HSE representatives sit across the table and have a very constructive debate on themes relevant to the current topical issues. This combination is a win-win as the business leaders them selves get to participate and then ensure their respective businesses align with TE HSE strategy in keeping people, assets and environment safe. The four focus areas for this forum was, - LEADERSHIP: Achieving targets without compromising safety - STOP WORK: Innovative strategies to improve ownership and accountability towards Stop Work Obligation - RECOGNITION: Improve the inclusion of people to safety organization and overall recognition strategies - REX: Improving Return of Experience ( lessons learned) to create robust reporting culture and better analysis of reported near miss occurrence We all had a very engaging workshop, brainstorming the four areas and agreed to re-convene in six months time to discuss how we progressed in these areas in our respective businesses/projects. Thank you PBF HSE team for hosting this very value added forum.

"Culture is not about individuals, but what happens between individuals". Delighted to have facilitated this informing event with James MacPherson in Risk Fluent Ltd, for CBRE Global Workplace Solutions (GWS) and Sunit Atwal. 🌐 Understanding culture, especially where thousands of organisations come together across multiple projects of varying scopes and scale, is no easy task. It was a real pleasure to work all of the attendees across this terrific event and deliver some incredible value-adding takeaways on how culture can be measured, engaged with, and shaped in the context of aligned success. 📄 Check out the document below and let us know what you think. I can't wait to get into using the mapping tool in the future in more detail. #healthandsafety #culturechange #QSHE #riskmanagement #leadership #values
Understanding a company's true culture is fundamental for managing risk, especially when organisational cultures intersect. The FM industry is characterised by the covergence of business cultures. Whether its engineers working on client sites or the extensive number of supplier partners supporting operational delivery, different company cultures are constantly interacting. Traditionally, prequalification questionnaires with standard questions about accident rates and other metrics were used to assess suitability in FM contracts - but is that enough? Does it allow suppliers to truly express their ways of working a client site? Could having insight into true organisational culture help foster success? Check out this year's QHSE Hackathon results were we developed a Culture Mapping Tool that organisations can use to facilitate success. I am so proud to work for an organisation that truly understands the value of diversity and collaboration. At CBRE we are dedicated to bringing together our vast network of suppliers and clients to collaboratively address challenges and advance the QHSE profession. Thank you Risk Fluent Ltd James MacPherson Peter Jenkins for facilitating another brilliant event! And a special thank you to our operational leaders Kevin Lynn Will Metcalfe Peter Belmore for your dedication to QHSE, effective risk management and service excellence. ⭐ #qhse #riskmanagement #hackathon #culture #leadership #understand #enhance #influence Adam Wilkinson Karen Forrester Dominic La Roche Stephen Green GCGI Victoria Mothersole Anthony Vasey Chris O'Brien Jamie McDonald Andrew Sherlock Lee Hamilton Jessica Sales
