Came across a very interesting application of AI for Good Governance! LA County in the US is testing AI to identify residents at risk of homelessness. "The tool analysed more than 400 factors - including data from the county jail and hospitals, safety net programmes, and homelessness and foster care systems - to create a list of 100,000 people deemed at risk of ending up on the streets." Link: https://lnkd.in/e-t52XFa ✅ For good governance, scale and speed are key factors for ensuring timely intervention by the administration. Hence, a great application for AI. ❌ BUT, I really hope they have thoroughly tested the tool for Type 2 errors (false negatives). In such high stake contexts 'human in the loop' is very important. The ethos of Bear Brown and Company began with an idea: leveraging AI for good. Our co-founders Nik Bear Brown and Gerardo Serrano came together to create a platform that would help people in need connect with resources in their community. With that, we proudly debut the Community Resource Guide (CRG): a genAI platform that simplifies the process of finding and connecting to resources for almost any socio-economic need. Anyone can access the CRG and pose questions like: “I need help paying a utility bill,” “I need after-school care for my 3rd grader,” or “I am facing homelessness or food insecurity,” and the CRG returns the best resources and contact information. This is version 2 of the CRG, and with time and training, it will only improve. Our next version will feature an enhanced interface and the ability to reach out to organizations on the user's behalf, further reducing barriers to resource access.
