This ad is the perfect example of what Thought Leadership is, 99% of the time:
1. Focusing on a reality/fact/feeling that everyone has.
2. Owning that narrative by making it entertaining or intersting.
3. Promoting a service, but not as the guest star, not the main actor.
Awesome ad from Australia.

This week I watched The Triple Six Eight - a war drama film about an all-black, all-female battalion, in World War II, Oscar nominated - while it may not have been a masterpiece in my opinion, it left me impressed by its representation of leadership.
Based on a true and successful story, the film brilliantly showcases the qualities of a great leader, and I couldn’t help but reflect on them.
One standout moment is the Major’s speech, rallying her team to take on an impossible mission: sorting mail that had been piling up for over ten months in freezing hangars. What stood out to me wasn’t just the historical significance but the example of leadership in a 3 minute speech.
- 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲 (𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗪𝗵𝘆): She connected the mission to the soldiers' morale and the bigger picture, inspiring her team with a sense of importance.
- 𝗔𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗲: She was transparent about the scale of the problem, building trust and preparing her team mentally.
- 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: She reframed doubt into determination, empowering her team to rise above the low expectations placed on them.
- 𝗙𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝘆: A clear, actionable plan turned the chaos into a manageable task.
- 𝗔𝗱𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: Despite the tough conditions, she emphasized making do and overcoming obstacles.
- 𝗘𝗺𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: She made it clear that success depended on every individual’s contribution and recognized their resilience.
The film also highlighted other critical leadership traits, such as listening and showing respect for those who came before.
This story reminds me that great leadership is not about perfection but about purpose, resilience, and belief in your team. I'm very impressed on how well the film could show it! 💬
If you are interested, the film is on Netflix and the best speech is at 1:01:30 to 1:04:30. Trailer here: https://lnkd.in/dFm9ndnp#Leadership#LessonsFromHistory#Inspiration#GrowthMindset#WWIIStories#TheTripleSixEight
"The truth is, everybody has a reputation. People who you get told are difficult might be, but they equally might not be,” says film director Jim Gillespie, talking in part about his experiences with actor Sylvester Stallone. “And they might not be difficult with you.”
Reputations can certainly be accurate, no one is saying different. Yet the quote above suggests a less-than-positive reputation about someone's professionalism may not be the absolute we likely assume.
