ASL perfusion technique Method to measure the Cerebral Blood Flow (perfusion) • In ASL, endogenous arterial blood water is magnetically labeled instead of exogenously administered tracer, and the magnetic label decays with T1 • To accompl ish this, the longitudinal magnetization of arterial blood water must be manipulated (label ing) so that it differs from the tissue magnetization. 🧠 3D Arterial Spin Labeling (ASL) is a quantitative application that allows the assessment of blood flow of the whole brain using a noncontrast method of quantifying Cerebral Blood Flow (CBF), eliminating needles or radiation. Clinical benefits: ✅ Helps diagnose and monitor treatment with quantitative results ✅ CBF values aid to grade tumors ✅ Helps monitor therapy progression in treatment of infection or tumors ✅ Helps with assessment of stroke damage. #radiologist #pituitary #neuroscience #stroke #perfusion #neurology #mri

Why do ASL when you're going to do DSC anyway? DSC is more accurate, higher SNR, higher resolution, and offers more parameters (CBF, CBV, MTT, Tmax)
