Life update or more precisely academic update: Yesterday finally completed all the assignments, presentations, projects with this research report submission for the M.A. 3rd Semester. It feels like a heavy burden wearing off my shoulders. End semester exams are near the corner but I am not stressed or burdened enough to start preparing for it right now. By the way, the topic of the research was "Exam Anxiety among the Science and Arts Stream Postgraduate Students of Dibrugarh University". The Somaiya Centre for Integrated Science Education and Research (SciSER) is part of S K Somaiya College under Somaiya Vidyavihar University in Mumbai. The center focuses on interdisciplinary research and education, especially in fields bridging science and technology. SciSER provides an integrated learning approach with offerings that include innovative programs such as the five-year BS-MS dual degree, combining foundational science disciplines (like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with applied fields such as Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and other modern fields. This curriculum aligns with the goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, allowing flexibility and multidisciplinary exposure. A well-researched article by Sanjukta Mondal for Chemistry World talking about how Indian Higher Education Institutes might be gaming the research metrics and the rankings. It contains opinions from Moumita Koley, PhD (Researcher, DST-CPR, IISc), Prof. V Ramgopal Rao (VC BITS Pilani) and our founder Achal Agrawal, PhD. Excerpt: "Achal Agrawal, founder of IRW, noticed that review papers on topics that were already explored or added little to the existing literature had over 100 citations. ‘So, initially, I thought it must be self-citations but it was not self-citing. It was citations from all over the world.’ Paper mills have clients from across the globe and this means they can create a web of papers that cite each other. This allows them to boost citation numbers artificially without risking self-citation, explains Agrawal. Citations aren’t the only metrics being gamed. To inflate an institute’s publications some researchers have resorted to purchasing authorships from paper mills too. Anonymous sources have told IRW that researchers are being threatened with being forced to resign or fired if they don’t publish a certain number of papers per year. One researcher who was forced to resign had been an academic for over a decade." Bharat has been the cradle of civilization and inventor of Surgery and major breakthrough in physics and mathematicians. Some of the notables were Aryabhatt, Varahamihir , Bhaskara, Kanad ,Shushruta , Brahmagupta , Nagarjuna and many more. But introspect now. Except CV Raman who got the Nobel prize in Physics for his Raman scattering theory not even a single Bhartiye got Nobel in scientific research. Venki Ramakrishna and Abhijit Banerjee are US citizens. Bharat stands at fourth place in terms of publishing research papers but here is the catch. Avg Annual salary of a researcher is 7.5 lakh/ Annum while that of USA is 10-20 times and various perks also. Our scientific community doesn't go beyond doing Phd as Bharat still produces the highest number of PhDs after the USA but monetary support and inner conscience support is negligible. Most of our youths are busy in preparing for Bank clerical jobs, SSC, CGL ,IAS and other administrative services. Those in the medical field always aim for Civil service. This is due to lack of support and a societal environment. Israel and Jews make up 0.2% of the world' s population, yet they have won over 20% of the Nobel prizes - 204 in total out of around 900 awarded since the first Laureates at the start of the 20th century. We have many more talents but it is being sidelined due to the huge population and survival pressure. We have seen Phd holders applying for the post of peon in 2017 in UP.
