When I started my journey in architecture, I believed it was all about designing beautiful spaces—making structures that caught the eye and stood out. And while aesthetics are important, I’ve learned something much deeper along the way. Architecture is about 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺𝘀, 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀. It’s about understanding the people who will inhabit the spaces and crafting environments that enhance their lives in ways they didn’t even know they needed. Over the years, every project has taught me something new—not just about architecture, but about people, communities, and the impact thoughtful design can have on the world. Now, I approach every design with one question: “𝘏𝘰𝘸 𝘤𝘢𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘱𝘢𝘤𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦?” 💡 𝘉𝘪𝘨𝘨𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦𝘢𝘸𝘢𝘺: Great design isn’t just seen—it’s 𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘁. What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned in your career journey? Let’s share and inspire each other in the comments. 👇 #ArchitectureJourney #LessonsInDesign #GrowthAndImpact #ProblemSolvingThroughDesign #LinkedInMasterClassWithBright #BuildwithAnulikah

A moment with David Karotkin Extraordinary architecture, together For David Karotkin, Carabiner's Managing Director and former Australian Institute of Architects National and WA Chapter President, Architecture has the ability to positively shape people's lives, and it begins with putting yourself in someone else’s shoes. 🌐 Read the full interview on our website: https://lnkd.in/gjDYdZuN #leadership #pertharchitect #extraordinaryarchitecturetogether You have led the design of a number of major hospital redevelopments and upgrades within WA’s Healthcare sector, is there still space for creativity within such a controlled, procedurally based environment? Oh, absolutely. I mean, creativity is the architect's tool, for trying to deliver the best design that we can. It's not just about interesting spaces or, good looking buildings, or unusual combinations of colour. Creativity is about thinking, broadening options to produce a design, and ultimately to optimize, or create the best possible space for people. And if you consider a health environment, there's no more important space to create a place that makes people feel good. It’s also a workplace, for people who deal with high pressure, very important jobs. So you want them to be in the best environment that they can be in. You're dealing with sick people and their families - people who are feeling very vulnerable. So creativity.. it's the tool that we use to deliver the best possible environment for those people. How is empathy for end users woven into design? I think empathy is about trying to put yourself in somebody else's shoes and to try to understand them as best you can. It's kind of everything. Because we don't design buildings. We actually design spaces for people to live their lives - and to be the best that they can be. So, somehow we have to really try to put ourselves in the shoes of the people who will end up using the building, visiting, living in whatever type of building it is.

Architectural design is not just about buildings; it’s about creating spaces that inspire and serve. Recently, I had the privilege of designing a [describe project, e.g., 'modern hospital that prioritizes functionality and aesthetics' or '3D front elevation for a client in Australia']. Seeing my clients' satisfaction reaffirms my commitment to innovation and excellence. As an architect, every project is a journey to blend creativity with precision, ensuring each structure tells a story. I’m incredibly grateful to collaborate with amazing clients and bring their visions to life If this resonates with you or you’re looking for someone to design your next project, feel free to connect or reach out! Architecture and design are not just about creating buildings and spaces; they are about shaping experiences and enhancing lives. Every structure tells a story, reflecting the values, culture, and aspirations of its time. As architects and designers, we possess a unique ability to influence how people interact with their environments, turning abstract ideas into tangible realities. Consider the impact of architecture on daily life. The spaces we inhabit can inspire creativity, foster connection, and promote well-being. Think of the calming effects of natural light pouring through large windows, the warmth of a community center that welcomes people from all walks of life, or the innovative use of sustainable materials that harmonize with the environment. Each design decision contributes to a larger narrative that can uplift communities and support a sustainable future. The beauty of architecture lies in its challenge. It pushes us to think critically and creatively, to balance aesthetics with functionality, and to prioritize the needs of users while respecting our planet. As we face pressing global issues such as climate change, urban overcrowding, and social inequality, the role of architects becomes even more crucial. We are tasked with envisioning resilient cities and inclusive spaces that cater to diverse populations. Every great architect has faced obstacles and setbacks. From the initial concept to the final execution, the journey is filled with learning and growth. It is essential to embrace this process and view challenges as opportunities for innovation. Remember, even the most celebrated designs started as simple sketches or ideas that required perseverance to realize. As you embark on your architectural journey, keep in mind the power of collaboration. Great design is often born from the collective effort of diverse minds—engineers, planners, artists, and community members. Engage with those around you, listen to their stories, and let their insights inform your designs. This collaborative spirit not only enriches your work but also builds stronger communities. In a rapidly changing world, your role as an architect or designer is vital. You have the chance to redefine what is possible, to push boundaries, and to create spaces that resonate with people on a profound level. Embrace your creativity, stay curious, and let your passion for architecture guide you in making a lasting impact. Remember, every project is an opportunity to inspire, innovate, and transform. The future of our built environment is in your hands—design with purpose, and shape a better world for all. #MotivationalMonday #club #TIR #architecture #interiordesign #design #architect #creativity

Corporate Architecture Holds the Key to Limitless Design Innovation. Yes, you heard it correctly! Contrary to common belief, corporate architecture isn't limited in its scope for innovation and design. With firsthand experience in numerous corporate projects, I can attest to this field's vast potential for creativity. ◾A key area of innovation lies in creating spaces that foster collaboration, creativity, and flexibility. This involves designing agile work environments that efficiently blend focused tasks with collaborative, recreational zones. ◾Furthermore, sustainability is no longer an option but a necessity in the current scenario. Integrating green building practices, renewable energy sources, and biophilic design elements into corporate structures is essential. ◾Technology integration is another area that is reshaping corporate design landscapes, with smart building systems optimising operational efficiency and enhancing user experiences. By merging creativity, functionality, and sustainability, corporate spaces can be transformed for the future, inspiring innovation, collaboration, and success. What do you think? How to move from your pain points to more sustainable points. 🌳 With larger industry and commercial projects, there's definitely quite a strong move towards sustainability. I believe this is mostly due to being in the public eye, social responsibility and the incentives that come with it. For more private clients, this isn't always the case and there are sometimes quite a number of factors that might prohibit you from persuing a more sustainable approach to the design of your dream home or space. Below, I've looked at five concerns you might face when considering a more sustainable design approach, and how architects can help you navigate this process: 1️⃣ High Initial Costs 2️⃣ Lack of Knowledge + Expertise 3️⃣ Complex Regulatory Requirements 4️⃣ Integration with Existing Systems 5️⃣ Aesthetic concerns Swip right on the document below to get a quick breakdown of what each of these steps entail! There are many more, but I'm not alone in this conversation and look forward to hearing what others may add to it! #sustainability #architecture #design #sustainabledesign #sustainablearchitecture
