Here are some of the most exciting new updates: 1️⃣ Amazon Q – AI-Powered Assistant AWS launched Amazon Q, its first generative AI assistant, designed to help businesses automate tasks, generate content, and extract insights with simple natural language. With built-in security and access control, Amazon Q can connect to systems like Salesforce and SharePoint, offering traceable, secure results. This reflects AWS’s strategic focus on AI-powered enterprise solutions. 2️⃣ AWS App Studio – Build Apps in Minutes Non-coders can now create scalable, secure applications using AWS App Studio. This low-code platform allows users to describe the apps they need, and AI takes care of the rest—from data models to UI. Build faster with Survatra and Amazon Q Developer, a generative artificial intelligence (AI)-powered assistant that accelerates development tasks wherever you work-in integrated development environments (IDE), the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Management Console, or in Slack.

The always fascinating 'State of Devops' report has had its 2024 edition published by DORA and Google Cloud. A stand out takeaway for me is that GenAI coding tools are helping developers feel more productive, but they seem to be creating less stable products. We still haven't reached the point where AI tools are replacing software engineers (thankfully). Standout points in the report for me were: * More than 75 percent of respondents said that they rely on AI for at least one daily professional responsibility, but nearly 40% of developers report 'little' or 'no' trust in AI generated code. * Using AI tools gave a perceived improvement in documentation quality, code quality (let's come back to this) and code review speed * BUT using AI tools caused an estimated reduction in delivery stability by 7.2%, possibly due to larger changelists and moving away from small batches / rapid iterations (more automation = more change?) * Engineering culture was important to team performance in 2023 and is still hugely important in 2024. Teams that have stable and supportive environments have better outcomes. * DORA suggest that they "wouldn't be surprised if we see AI adoption leads to higher job satisfaction".
