Recently during JEC '24, we announced our new AI-Based Autoclave Scheduling Optimization Solution, which is a crucial step towards industry ramp-up and sustainability efforts. In today's world, where there is a constant pressure to increase production outputs and save energy, it is extremely important to have a good autoclave schedule. This was a great week at SETAC! Today‘s session on tire and road wear particles provided some truly interesting presentations and discussions on occurrence, fate, and impact of tire wear emissions in the environment. As the discussions revealed, we can’t simply close the tap to stop tire wear emissions. These emissions will occur as long as we have vehicle traffic, due to the friction between the tire and the road surface. Mobility is a fundamental aspect of our society as it gives us the freedom to move around and transport goods and services. This makes it clear how important it is for us to understand what these emissions mean for our ecosystems and to come up with ways of reducing them. A clear scope of tire wear research will help us to identify solutions to existing and future challenges with tire wear. Some take home messages from today are: - The complexity of tire wear emissions requires complementary analytical methods. - There is growing body of knowledge about the fate and impact of tire wear emissions in the environment, allowing for an increasingly comprehensive assessment of this type of non-exhaust emission. - A better understanding of the combined effects of particles and leachables is needed. Advancements in the Fiber Composite Kitchen 📈 Insights from LZS 👍 Kai Steinbach summarizes the successful "SMC in High-Performance Applications" working group meeting at BYK Additives, initiated and led by LZS: The working group meeting on "Functional Additives in the FRP Process Chain" of Composites United e.V. (CU) was a resounding success. Held in Wesel on May 7, 2024, it brought together three CU working groups and showcased the crucial role additives play in fiber composite materials. 🔩 Andréa Bercini from Leibniz-Institut für Polymerforschung Dresden provided insights into influencing glass fiber strength and bonding to matrices through sizing. Representatives from BYK-Chemie discussed additive possibilities and challenges for thermosetting and thermoplastic matrix systems. Nicole S. from Polynt Group highlighted the complexity of finding suitable additives. Dr. Hauke Lengsfeld from Schill+Seilacher "Struktol" GmbH discussed phosphorus-organic flame retardants' production and effect on thermosetting resins. andreas palinsky from CTP Advanced Materials GmbH emphasized the diverse industry requirements for resins.
