Exploring Alternate Shade Trees 🌳 in Tea 🍵 🍃 🌱 Plantations with Dr. Manivasakan During my recent exploration of sustainable practices in tea plantations, I had the privilege of collaborating with Dr. Manivasakan, Associate Professor in Forestry, to document the fascinating role of alternate shade trees. Together, we delved into how these trees not only support tea cultivation but also contribute to ecological balance. Why Alternate Shade Trees??? Shade trees are integral to tea plantations, providing a cooler microclimate, enhancing soil health, and supporting biodiversity. Dr. Manivasakan shared valuable insights on how alternate shade tree species, such as Silver oak, Media dubia, Toona ciliata, Chukrasia tabularis, etc can be utilized to optimize tea yield through partial shade and thus promoting sustainability.
