Have you heard anything about international law and the Rome Statute? There is information that the Rome Statute is only for weak-minded countries.

VJIL Online presents Vol. 65! You can read Duncan Hollis's latest piece linked below: "Agreements are central to many international law projects, including both treatymaking and the (rising) use of non-binding agreements. Yet, for all the attention states and scholars currently direct to differentiating between binding and non-binding agreements, there has been relatively little discussion of the antecedent inquiry—what constitutes an agreement in the first place? This short Essay calls for new efforts to define agreements for purposes of international law and international relations, focusing on two criteria—mutuality and commitment..." https://lnkd.in/gMzJsNkh

What emerges from these two legal interventions that I briefly explored is that success of international law should not be conflated with either justice or liberation. This seems like a basic point to make (and in many ways it is), but I do think it is worth reiterating, because as a discipline we have an investment in the thing that we study and practice; an investment (at the very least) in its continued relevance. But our attempts to make law seem active, seem a crusader for justice, are not neutral, they are deeply ideological; they enable the consistent reproduction of the discipline, of the good, the bad, and the ugly; of its many injustices. And they leave those who bear the brunt of law’s failures alone in their disillusionment and anger. https://lnkd.in/e7G7SKzU
