Our #businessstories need to include emotion... And here’s the science behind why: Paul Zak, the director of the Center for Neuroeconomics Studies at Claremont Graduate University, conducted a study where participants watched a video that told the story of a father whose son was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Researchers found that while participants couldn’t necessarily put into words how the video made them feel, two primary emotions were elicited: distress and empathy. With these two emotions, their brains produced two chemicals in response to the story. One was cortisol, which focuses attention. The more distress we feel, the more cortisol our brains release. The second was oxytocin, correlated with the listener’s sense of empathy. The participants were then given the opportunity to donate money to a cancer research organization. Researchers found that they could predict if the participant would donate based solely on the amount of oxytocin their brain produced. So, when the story tugged on the heartstrings of listeners, the distress they felt released cortisol in their brain and riveted their attention to the story. The empathy and compassion that the story triggered released oxytocin, which later drove them to take action. Our takeaway? Emotion is an essential component to storytelling. The emotion we infuse into a story drives our audience to action. Watch the full video here: https://ow.ly/jhhj50QvCC3 #storytellingscience #leadershipskills #leadershipcommuication

The recent Montefiore Einstein campaign from Alto New York is storytelling at it’s best! In a world where digital trends come and go, one thing remains constant: the power of storytelling. The most successful campaigns go beyond selling products—they tell stories that resonate, connect emotionally, and drive action. Why is storytelling so effective in advertising? It’s in our DNA: We are wired to process stories, not data. Stories activate parts of our brain that evoke real-life experiences, creating a deeper connection with the message. Empathy drives action: Emotional storytelling fosters empathy and trust, building stronger relationships with audiences. It builds brand identity: Whether you’re Nike or a small business, a compelling brand story creates loyalty and sets you apart from the competition. With the growth of AI and synthetic content my only hope is that we don’t lose sight of the value of human stories. #Storytelling #Advertising #BrandIdentity
Alexander Payne, the Academy Award-winning director of The Holdovers and Sideways, reunited with his longtime collaborator, actor Paul Giamatti, for a campaign celebrating New York hospital Montefiore Einstein’s Advanced Lung Failure and Lung Transplant Program. “The core idea behind the film was that Paul Rivera and Montefiore Einstein’s Lung Transplant story is worthy of that treatment,” said Alto founder and chief creative officer Hannes Ciatti. “Once we had that idea and script, partnering with Alexander and Paul Giammati was a perfect match because they are some of the world’s best storytellers and have a partnership that goes back decades.” https://adweek.it/3MNeQb9

Join the Mission: Shop For A Cure When I was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), I experienced firsthand how the generosity of others helped fund the life-saving research that made my treatment possible. That experience inspired me to ask a bigger question: how can we make it easier for everyone to contribute to this vital work? The answer is Shop For A Cure—an initiative that leverages technology to fund cancer research seamlessly. Through a free browser extension, a portion of every online purchase at participating retailers will go directly toward funding research—at no extra cost to shoppers. In my time at Snowdome, my passion for bringing this initiative to life has only grown stronger. Seeing the critical need for innovative funding solutions has reinforced my belief that Shop For A Cure can have a profound impact on advancing research and improving outcomes for those facing cancer. To make this vision a reality, I’m seeking: - Advisors to help shape strategy - Developers and designers to build and refine the extension - Marketers to amplify our reach - Strategic partners to scale the impact This initiative is deeply personal to me, and I believe it has the power to create real change. If you have expertise to share or know someone who might want to get involved, I’d love to hear from you. Visit shopforacure.org to learn more and explore how you can make a difference. Together, we can turn everyday shopping into life-saving action. #ShopForACure #SupportCancerResearch #InnovationForGood #JoinTheMission
