What do hair salons and medical practices have in common…an unexpected part two! Yesterday after I wrote my most recent post I hopped on the phone with a 6 location beauty salon in Oregon. We got to talking about a restaurant we’ve both enjoyed (I lived in Oregon as a young kid and my parents took us to this special restaurant a few times. It’s still there and the salon owner goes every now and again) and then we moved onto the nitty gritty: - They can’t keep their front desk staffed - Positions are hard to fill with frequent callouts  - It is expensive, with lots of wasted time, especially on their slower days - They need a more efficient solution but don’t want to sacrifice the personal touch. These issues mirror what I often hear from medical practices. Completely different industries but strikingly similar challenges with a similar solution: virtual front desks. How do they do it? Install video receptionist kiosks in each location. This allows a much smaller remote team to provide the same amount of front desk coverage. This way they won’t need someone physically at the front desk every location but can still provide the personal touch to every single customer. P.S If you’re ever in Portland go to Papa Haydns and order a slice of Baccone Dolce, or any desserts of theirs for that matter. Core memory for me.

After I’ve prepared like this, I’m perfectly positioned to take time away and relax with a good book and a lavender pedicure.
