Hurricane Helene has devastated parts of the southeastern United States, especially northwestern North Carolina, northwestern South Carolina and eastern Georgia. We are keeping all the YMCAs affected in those regions, your staff, and your communities in our thoughts and prayers. ❤️ If you want to help, there are a few immediate ways to do so: Contribute to the Employee Assistance Fund, which provides financial aid to Y staff in need after natural disasters and other crises. Y-USA has created this centralized relief fund and will work with Alliance leaders to distribute donations to YMCA associations that need them most, to aid near-term efforts to get damaged facilities back up and running and to support long-term recovery. https://bit.ly/3N75s2c

Update: Convoy Of Hope is working on mobilizing more semi trucks of relief supplies to Carolinas. Below is a breakdown of how every donation at any level helps bring relief and hope. Not everyone is able to donate funds…that’s ok. Please keep them in your prayers. If we all join together as we are able, we can make a difference in the lives of many. $10 helps provide essential relief supplies to a family of four. $15 helps create a family hygiene kit. $33 helps provide essential relief supplies to a family of four for a day. $50 helps provide a relief bucket. $225 helps provide essential relief supplies to a family of four for a week. $30,000 helps send a semi truck to a disaster site. Today as I stopped by Red Cross to make a donation for those in Western North Carolina impacted by the hurricane something came to mind. Having worked with and for nonprofits for over 8 years, I've learned that one of the best ways to help those impacted by disasters like hurricanes is to streamline donations. Instead of sending mixed supplies, consider buying *all* of one thing. It helps organizations and volunteers move faster and get essentials to those in need in a more timely manner. You may have seen my post yesterday about the damage Easterseals Florida sustained - theirs was not our only Affiliate impacted. The recent devastation from hurricanes has severely impacted our Easterseals Affiliates in North Carolina, Georgia and Florida. Our teams are working hard to support affected families and employees, but they urgently need help. Some Easterseals Affiliates sustained significant damage, and many of our employees are facing home damage, requiring immediate access to clean water, food, and essential supplies. While volunteers, program participants, their families and friends are working hard to restore services and programs as quickly as possible and to rapidly rebuild damaged structures, they need our help.
