It's great witnessing this CIOB initiative develop under Linda Stevens. Whether construction clients recognise it or not, they have great power. The trouble is that wielding it successfully through the complexities, ambiguities, volatility and uncertainty of the average project is as much an art as a science, and so of course they need help from contractors. The CIOB's Client Strategy is the forum where that collaborative relationship can thrive, leading the industry towards the goal we all hold so dear: an attractive, high-quality, functional, healthy, safe, sustainable, fair, viable and long-lasting built environment. The risk posed by #climatechange to cultural heritage needs to be understood and addressed in its complexity: now more than ever, the skills and competencies needed to manage and promote tangible cultural heritage need to be integrated with #riskassessment and #prevention.   ARTE Generali and Mazzini Lab Società Benefit are partners of the EU co-funded project CHARISMA (Cultural Heritage Academy for Risk Management) joining the effort to spread high level education and awareness on the measures to be taken to protect and enhance our cultural heritage.   This time we followed closely the RMCH - CHARISMA Academy training week "On the job training on Risk Management of Historical Manufacts", held from 22 to 26 January at the LCA Studio Legale in Milan. Whether you're trying to build a resilient team, or you're trying to build a resilient supply chain, building resilience requires bringing together a diversity of perspectives and openly talking about risks, aligning to create tangible outcomes. I'm looking forward to diving into this topic tomorrow at our third by-invitation Diverse Ecosystem Roundtable for the Construction Industry in Atlanta, which I'm co-hosting with co-author and diversity expert Ana Maria Quintero Lowry. We find that when we can get all parties at the table and challenge everyone to go past platitudes and dive honestly into what needs to change, THEN we can transform supplier diversity discussions from " check-the-box exercises" toward building ecosystems: -- diverse -- strategically aligned -- trusted ecosystems. We find it starts with asking uncomfortable questions. And being willing to listen to uncomfortable answers. Only THEN can the real work start. Have you found the same thing? Building a Safer Future (Building a Safer Future Charter) announces six new leadership and culture completers, with Baily Garner LLP, FORTIS VISION LIMITED, McLaren Construction Group, N-Able Group, Places for People and PRP awarded the ‘Certificate of Commitment and Progress — Building Safety Stage One’ in recognition of their achievements. Leadership and Culture is the first of two stages of the BSF Champion assessment, and together with the second stage (Corroborating Elements), requires organisations to commit to putting building users first in an ongoing building safety journey. Organisations that successfully complete both stages are awarded BSF Champion status, and benefit from actionable data and practical tools to help review and upgrade processes and regain public trust following the Grenfell Tower disaster.
