Yesterday I went to the CQI’s live event in London. A thought provoking and very informative conference with speakers from a spectrum of industries either in Quality or influencing a Quality Culture. The event reinforced my belief that behaviours matter. They cost lives and they cost money. So why do we call them soft skills or worse, fluffy! Proof of a Quality Culture in an organisation is not found in a few sentences used in marketing or tender documents. It’s in the behaviours and actions of its people, particularly when no one is looking or asking. There is also no one size fits all Quality Culture. It must be fit for purpose. One thing yesterday’s event showed me is that you don’t just have to have a Quality Culture from the organisation level, you can build it from a team of two. It just takes one person to lead by example… And so my action takeaway is to do just that! #cqilive2024 #cqiqualitylive #qualityculture #cqi #quality

Todd, great post, and timely. Thanks. It is clear that acquisitions can add immediate scale and access to coveted markets. But there is a substantial downside risk that for some reason, becomes a big surprise when that downside presents itself. As of early 2023, less than a handful of Med Device companies had made substantive organizational investments in QA, dedicated to M/A. However, over the last 14 months, we have seen numerous clients identify the need to elevate QA's participation while building the talent needed to make create the QA /RA recipe and then execute in support of the due diligence and integration. Success requires technical savvy, energy, business acumen, and a decisiveness to step up, and deliver pragmatic direction. Need to be tough enough to say 'no', while finding a solution! This is a coveted expertise that companies need; and what a fun opportunity for the right individual.

As a champion of Quality and a leader, I feel deeply honored to continue the legacy of a man who revolutionized how we understand and implement quality in every facet of business and life. Dr. Deming’s contributions were not merely about processes and metrics but about a transformation in thinking. He taught us that true Quality comes from the heart of leadership, empowering people, and an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement. His vision went beyond efficiency---creating systems that bring out the best in people, and fostering a culture where innovation, excellence, and learning thrive. As a Quality Champion and advocate, I take inspiration from his profound teachings. Together, we can uphold this legacy by embracing the principles he pioneered—systems thinking, process control, and relentless dedication to improvement. It is our responsibility to promote and embed Quality into the DNA of every organization we touch, not just as a goal, but as a mindset. We stand on the shoulders of giants like Dr. Deming, and as we celebrate his life and work today, we commit ourselves to carrying forward his torch. Through our leadership, dedication, and collective effort, we will continue to elevate standards, inspire change, and build a world where quality is the foundation of every achievement.
