International Day of Peace 2024🌍 Today, we join hands globally to celebrate the International Day of Peace, a day dedicated to fostering harmony and non-violence. Established by the United Nations in 1981, this day serves as a powerful reminder of our collective responsibility to promote peace and understanding. This year's theme, "Cultivating a Culture of Peace", emphasizes the importance of nurturing peace within our communities and across generations. Whether through education, dialogue, or simple acts of kindness, every effort counts towards building a more peaceful world. Let's take a moment to reflect on how we can contribute to a culture of peace in our daily lives. Together, we can create a future where peace and justice prevail. #InternationalPeaceDay #PeaceDay #GlobalGoals #SustainableFuture #PeaceAndJustice How do you plan to observe International Peace Day this year? 🌍✌️

In 1996, the United Nations (UN) General Assembly invited UN Member States to observe November 16 as the International Day for Tolerance. The day was founded to encourage respect among various people regardless of culture, language, religion or ethnicity. Today, in a world with conflicts, let us all at PTCREW take a few minutes on November 16 to pause and reflect on how tolerance is important. It is difficult to see the road ahead but let us all pledge to forge a path defined by dialogue, social cohesion and mutual understanding. Let’s hope that our World leaders model the United Nations mission and find way to practice tolerance and peace.

How much information do we know about the UN? Big question. UN peace missions are very useful but, in some cases, have a history of failure especially on protection of civilians. There is a great need for a rethinking about the UN mandates and operation procedures.
🇺🇳 How much do we *really* know about United Nations #peace missions? How many are ongoing? Where are they deployed? Are they effective? These are all questions our exhibition at the 🇨🇭 United Nations Office at Geneva aims to address (Palais des Nations, Bldg E, this week only). Today is United Nations Day, a moment to reflect on peace and cooperation across the globe. Here’s a photo from another millennium, a reminder of how far we’ve come and the work that remains. A heartfelt tribute to all the brothers and sisters who have selflessly given of themselves to help others. Their dedication and courage continue to inspire us to strive for a better, more compassionate world. On this special day, let us honor those who have devoted their lives to making a difference, whether on the front lines of conflict, in humanitarian missions, or through everyday acts of kindness. We also remember and pay our deepest respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice and lost their lives in the process. Their bravery and commitment will never be forgotten, and their legacy lives on in the efforts of those who continue the mission of peace and service. However, it is impossible to ignore the fact that the United Nations today does not hold the same power and respect it once did. Once seen as a beacon of global unity and justice, it now faces criticism for its inability to effectively address some of the most pressing issues of our time. Political divisions, bureaucratic obstacles, and lack of enforcement mechanisms have weakened its influence. Still, the ideals it represents—peace, cooperation, and the defense of human dignity—remain as relevant as ever. It is up to us, the global community, to ensure that these values are upheld and revitalized for the future.
