Patient Satisfaction with Mail-Order Pharmacies Increases, but Shrinks for Chain Stores    In the 2024 J.D. Power US Pharmacy Study, the company’s findings show customers’ satisfaction with mail-order pharmacy services is steadily increasing. In turn, authors of the report found that retail drug store customer satisfaction is decreasing at an even faster pace, owing to long wait times, failing trust in pharmacists, and difficulty in retrieving prescriptions as contributing factors.

Walmart's recent announcement of launching same-day prescription delivery adds significant competition to the already heated pharmacy sector, particularly against CVS and Walgreens, both of which also offer delivery services. The new service will initially be available in six states (Arkansas, Missouri, New York, Nevada, South Carolina, and Wisconsin), with plans to expand to 49 states by early 2025. Customers can bundle prescriptions with other store items, like groceries, for $9.95 per delivery, or get it for free if they're Walmart+ members. This move highlights Walmart's strategy to strengthen its position in the health and wellness industry by offering more convenience and integrating it with their existing infrastructure of 4,600 pharmacy locations. Additionally, Walmart’s service allows for streamlined prescription management by enabling collaboration between its pharmacy team and customers' primary care physicians to authorize prescriptions. This expansion reflects Walmart’s continued efforts to offer more integrated and customer-focused healthcare solutions.
