Most trains now offer #wifi, but have you ever wondered how it actually works? The train's #antennae pick up the signal from nearby base stations and connects passengers via #on_board #routers. However, the speed and connectivity depends on the network signal and the number of users. So, why can't people just use their phone data? There are practical reasons why this doesn't work. Train antennae outside the metal carriages usually perform far better in patchy network coverage, and in some cases, can even connect via networks in tunnels or to station wifi. #Train wifi systems work to maximize and smooth connectivity from different #mobile_networks, satellite or wifi. While many people have access to modern #smartphones with unlimited data packages, many still prefer or need wifi. #passenger_experience #telecom #internet
