Do you stress about your endless to do list? Maybe it's time to prioritize self-care. For more years than I care to admit, working in the #proposal world, meant pushing unmovable deadlines. It was not unusual to see proposal teams work double digit hours for days in a row. Pushes of 24+ hours at the end are still not unusual. For over 20 years, I've been a member of APMP and watched as the business development community evolved from a bunch of heroes working miracles, to a professional industry that understands and even embraces the importance of work/life balance. APMP is leading the charge for work life balance with their affinity groups. Watching today's work force leaders like Carrie Jordan and Amy McGeady share their stories of learning to balance and making the welfare of their teams a priority brings me hope for the industry. If you're still living the life of "you don't understand, I have too much to do to take a break." it's time to recognize that you'll get more done in less time if you take the time to rest and recover. You've earned it and you're worth it. #worklifebalance #personalcoach #proudtobeapmp Focusing On Results

As a proposal manager, I know there are times when I need to push myself; however, I've also learned there's no such thing as a "proposal emergency." But I wasn't always so kind to myself in previous roles/organizations. Just as self-care allows us to be better parents and spouses/partners, it is also critical to becoming more effective at our jobs. With Optum leadership promoting strong work-life balance (and modelling it), I have a healthier approach. Here are some of the things I do to ensure I'm not actively burning out: * I mark my calendar busy for lunch, every day. * I have a 4-hour "Meeting-Free Friday" block on my calendar. * For the weeks when it's crazy busy, I indulge in an early-out Friday. * I turn off work apps on my phone on the weekends and when I'm on PTO. * I participate in emotionally/intellectually invigorating committees/initiatives. * I dedicate time to focusing on professional training and/or development learning. If I start spiraling, I reach out (instead of retreating inward). Spending a few minutes venting with a leader or chatting with peers is sometimes all I need to hit the reset button.

Using 1-2 notaries can save you from spending too much energy in your workday. Why are you spending your time waiting in a que for the next available notary you can only hope is competent. Building a relationship with 1-2 notaries will spare you that energy you could be using to get the rest of your work done on time 💪🏻
