Today marks 2 weeks since I was impacted by the RIF at Checkr. I have noticed a few things that can be very frustrating for job seekers. The lack of pay and benefits information is a commonly mentioned frustration. Job seekers don't want to waste your time anymore than our own. Imagine seeing what appears to be a perfect fit skills and career wise only to find out it pays less than you can accept plus the cost of benefits is twice what you anticipated. Tied in level of frustration is attempting to make jobs something they are not. I saw a job posting for an "Appearance Technician", "technician" is a key word I have been looking for but it was a truck detailer. The job entailed washing and shampooing carpets in rental box trucks. Not every position is a technician, specialist, or analyst. That's perfectly fine, trucks need detailing and the person who is looking for that job likely missed the posting due to the job title. Office job titles can be clerks or associates and again that is acceptable. Lastly, failing to realize experience can be as useful, if not more so, as a degree. If you aren't specifying a job related degree and accept any degree, why isn't relevant experience acceptable? Is someone with a history degree going to be a better fit for customer service manager than the high school graduate with multiple years in the field and supervisory experience?

Don’t be ashamed of your jobs. Any job at all. I have personally known many successful people who started their careers as a: - tourist guide - office cleaner - pet taxi driver - personal shopper - hotel housekeeper - call centre operator - food delivery driver - computer technician - data entry personnel - plastic factory operator - mobile phone technician - t-shirt and calendar seller - customer service representative Some people will make fun of you. Look down on you. Or ignore you. So what? If it doesn’t work out, don’t see it as a failure. Look at them as your learning opportunities. They make you better, stronger and wiser. You can be sure they are part of your ingredients for future success. Remember… Never be ashamed.

If someone on your team is handling fleet in ADDITION to other tasks, here are a few symptoms that you might need to think about hiring a full time fleet manager. ❌ Turnover and burnout — If you experience high turnover rates among drivers or fleet managers, it could be a sign that something should change with in-house management practices. ❌ Safety concerns — They could be a sign that your in-house solution is not effectively monitoring and addressing safety issues. ❌ Underutilized vehicles — If your vehicles are frequently idle or underutilized, it may indicate that your fleet management is not effectively matching vehicle capacity with demand. Remember, it’s hard to handle fleet in addition to other responsibilities. Each vehicle can feel like an extra part-time job. #fleetmanagement #fleet #fleetsafety

For the past few weeks I have been seconded in to the position of Chief Everything Officer. This is in addition to my day job. 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: My Home, 24/7 (occasional trips to the shops) 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞: $0.00 (In fact, this secondment is costing me more money than I would normally spend in a work day) 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: ⭐ Multitasking - Juggling multiple jobs at once. One minute, I'm preparing meals (that won't be eaten), and the next, I'm a therapist listening to numerous life struggles. ⭐Chauffeur - Driving nowhere I actually want to be going to, all while listening to the same 3-minute song on repeat ⭐Professional Cleaner ⭐Rule Enforcer 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬 𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐝: ⭐No prior experience needed ⭐A strong ability to pick your battles ⭐High tolerance for mess and general chaos ⭐Ability to survive on coffee (and occasional wine) and very little rest ⭐An ability to listen to stories that make zero sense and pretending to understand/care ⭐Ability to ignore the sound of "I'm bored" and "I'm hungry" on repeat This secondment is challenging to say the least, but also very rewarding (despite the lack of monetary compensation). To all the Chief Everything Officers out there, keep doing what you do—not all heroes wear capes! #StayAtHomeParenting #ChiefEverythingOfficer #MultitaskingMaster #WorkLifeBalance

Let’s talk about what I like to call the “foot-in-the door” technique for low-time pilots (this can be applicable to entry-level Flight Attendants as well). There are many jobs in aviation, where the employer would like to hire someone with aviation knowledge to fill the role. If you have ground school completed, pilot certificate in hand, aviation-related education, or other aviation-related experience, you might qualify. I have hired a few low-time pilots into these positions over the years. They continued to build time on the side by instructing or other part-time flying and when the time was right, they moved on to flying full-time. On their resume, it was a good look that they had worked in an aviation environment. Working in a non-crew position in aviation, they were well positioned as their flight hours reached the limits needed for their “goal job,” they either… 1) Had a foot in the door at an operator who hired them to fly… OR… 2) Were a more desirable hire (it’s competitive out there!) because of their time spent working for an aviation-related company, in combination with their flying time. Research non-crew jobs at 135 operators: · Charter Coordinator / Scheduling Coordinator · Flight Follower · Charter Sales · Crew Logistics Coordinator · Aviation Recruiter · Training Coordinator / Ground School Instructor · Marketing Manager Research non-crew jobs at FBO’s: · Customer Service Representative or Hospitality Coordinator · Line Service Technician · Operations Manager · Ramp Agent · Safety Officer · Dispatch Coordinator · Janitorial/Maintenance Staff · Fuel Farm Operator Pro-tips: · Search LinkedIn jobs using titles listed above. · These positions are also good starting places for entry-level Flight Attendants who are looking to gain experience and a "foot-in-the-door." As a popular LinkedIn aviation coach says "work is work." Please comment if you are aware of, or are hiring for, any non-crew positions that would be well suited for a low-time pilot who is building time or an entry-level FA looking for their “open door.”

Are you compromising safety for hiring skilled Forklift Drivers FAST? 🚨 Common pitfalls: ● Rushing interviews ● Choosing speed over quality ● Skipping important background checks ● Copying others' bad hiring methods ● Ignoring important steps in recruitment ● Partnering with any recruitment company Sound familiar? "We need someone fast – just hire whoever!" "Fill the vacancy now; we're shorthanded." ⚠️ The consequences: ● Workplace accidents ↑ ● Missed deadlines ↑ ● Equipment damage ↑ 💡 The solution: Partner with a specialist logistics labour partner. ✅ Imagine having a logistics labour partner with deep knowledge of the Australian logistics market – → We understand the challenges like strict regulations, long distances, and the need to be familiar with local routes and laws. ✅ Imagine having a logistics labour partner who provides high-quality forklift drivers → We deliver highly experienced, highly skilled forklift drivers who excel in Side Loading, Pallet Stacking, High Reach Forklifting, Reach Stacker Operations, and more. As January Comes to a Close… We’re reminded of the importance of communication and the dedication we bring to both our clients and candidates. Recruitment, as many of you know, is a journey filled with highs and lows. But it’s these moments that shape us, push us, and make us stronger as recruiters. Through it all, we remain humble, hungry, and ready to tackle every challenge. One of the mottos in the office is simple but powerful: “It’s go time.” And as we step into February, you can be sure you’ll see that energy in full force.
