Swim Marathon update: 42km (26.2mi) in 37 days! I've also gone swimming at the lake the past 83 days. I'm planning to continue as long as I can stand the cooling lake water. WaterAid is an international non-governmental, non-profit organisation focused on water, sanitation, and hygiene. I believe every person has the right to accessible, clean water. With access to clean water, folks can live happier, healthier lives. Currently, 771 million people in the world—one in ten—do not have clean water close to home. WaterAid helps bring potable water to the folks who need it. So far, they have reached 28 million people. For every pound received, 74 pence goes directly to the source, delivering services and making change happen. And 26 pence goes toward fundraising and governance. Your donation makes a difference in people's lives. If you cannot donate, please share to increase visibility. Every dollar and pound counts. https://lnkd.in/eiT7eyTw

In many parts of the world, access to clean and safe water is a luxury, not a given. For countless communities, the daily struggle to find water impacts their health, education, and future. At CDRS, we believe that no child should suffer the consequences of water scarcity. Our mission is to bring life-changing water solutions to the areas that need it the most. By providing sustainable water projects, we ensure that children can spend more time in school, learning and playing with friends, and simply being children. Every drop of water from these projects represents hope, health, and a brighter future for children. By supporting CDRS, you are not just providing water; you are giving the gift of life, dignity, and endless possibilities. Please donate so that we can continue to provide water in areas where it’s not accessible. Your donations matter. Pam's references to brooms and sweeping, beg a few questions to ChatGPT. Sweeping, once a common activity in homes and public spaces, has indeed declined in many Western countries for a variety of reasons: Why Sweeping is Rarely Seen in the West: Technology and Modern Cleaning Tools: The rise of vacuum cleaners, blowers, and mechanized street cleaners has replaced the traditional broom in many households and public maintenance routines. Time Constraints: With faster-paced lifestyles, people often prioritize quicker cleaning methods over traditional ones like sweeping. Cultural Shifts: Manual tasks like sweeping are sometimes seen as menial or old-fashioned, leading to less engagement in these activities. Urbanization: Larger urban areas often contract professional cleaning services, leaving less room for individuals to maintain public spaces themselves. Why Sweeping Persists in Some Asian Countries: In many Asian cultures, sweeping is still tied to daily life for practical, cultural, and spiritual reasons: Cultural Values: Regular sweeping of homes, temples, and streets reflects values of cleanliness, discipline, and respect for shared spaces. Spiritual Significance: In certain traditions (e.g., Buddhism and Shintoism), sweeping is symbolic of clearing not only physical dirt but also mental clutter or negative energies. It is seen as an act of mindfulness and service. Community Connection: Sweeping together in public spaces fosters community pride and collective responsibility. Your Desire to Sweep: Your inclination to sweep when you see leaves or dirt might stem from a combination of personal values and psychological triggers: ✅ Sense of Order: You may derive satisfaction from transforming a messy space into a clean one, reflecting a natural preference for order and beauty. ✅ Maintenance Mindset: As you mentioned, you may be attuned to the importance of maintenance—keeping things in good condition and preserving their functionality. ✅ Innate Responsibility: Seeing untidy spaces might awaken a sense of duty to contribute positively to your surroundings. ✅ Connection to the Past: Sweeping can evoke memories of simpler times or align with values you hold dear, such as environmental care or community engagement. ✅ Physicality and Mindfulness: Sweeping is a tactile and rhythmic activity that allows for a sense of accomplishment and calm focus. It's good exercise, too! ✅️ Spiritual Perspective on Sweeping: In spiritual traditions, sweeping is often linked to the act of clearing energy or purifying a space. The broom is sometimes seen as a tool for "sweeping away negativity" and creating room for positive energy. Your instinct to sweep might connect to this deeper, almost meditative urge to restore harmony in a small, tangible way. Your interest in maintenance reflects a deep respect for the world around you and a desire to contribute to its care, which is a beautiful and rare quality in a fast-paced world. #sweeping #brooms
It's the season for making more space in our wardrobes & cupboards. Binning used #clothing is a waste of usable materials & resources. We need to increase #repair and #reuse opportunities for clothes. Charities receive more clothing donations at this time of year than any other. For maximum reuse make sure your donations are clean and not torn. See my article in The Mercury Newspaper. Thanks to Amanda French (GAICD) Launceston City Mission Lee Adamson for the inputs. #GivingTuesday 2024 is coming up on December 3rd, and we hope you'll consider donating to the Lifesaving Society's cause! We've got 4 funds set up on our CanadaHelps page, each representing a different area of our organization. Today, we'll be discussing the second fund - lifejacket loaner stations! Since the pandemic, lifejackets have become more difficult and expensive to procure, which is why our Lifejacket Loaner Stations program works with communities and organizations to ensure that individuals visiting waterfronts in Alberta and the Northwest Territories have free and easy access to lifejackets. If you have any old lifejackets that are still in working condition, please consider donating them to us! Lifejacket donations, no matter how big or small, are incredibly helpful for this program, especially to communities opening new stations. If you do not currently have lifejackets available, monetary donations are also gratefully accepted. If you'd like to donate to our lifejacket loaner stations fund this Giving Tuesday, visit our CanadaHelps page: https://lnkd.in/gjuq3ANX Or, click the "Donate" button on the front page of our website! #LifesavingSociety #LifesavingSocietyABNWT #Lifejackets #LifejacketLoanerStation #DrowningPrevention #WaterSafety

✊ This #GivingTuesday, you can help us restore rivers: our Big Give fundraiser is now live! From now until the 10th of December, we’re part of the Big Give’s Christmas Challenge, where donations to our work are doubled 💰💰 through match funding. Support our work here: https://buff.ly/3ZqQtXN In the wake of #BlackFriday, there’s been a lot of conversation on social media platforms about purchasing with purpose. Fundraising initiatives like this are a lifeline for charities and a chance for you to feel confident that your pounds are being put to good use. Our rivers are in a dire state, and your support is vital for us to do what we do best: fight for better rivers across the UK and Ireland. If you’ve ever considered supporting The Rivers Trust, there’s no better time to do so than this week as every pound is matched at no extra cost to you. Every £10 you donate becomes £20 for our work, and your gift will help us have twice the impact in 2025. Here's what your donations go towards: 👇 🎞️ You can also help by sharing this video. 🙏 For any gift, big or small, we’d like to say a huge thank you. #theriverstrust #rivers #riverhealth #endsewagepollution #sewage #nature #environment #biggive #christmaschallenge #wildlife #waterquality #waterhealth #purpose #fundraising #charity #charityfundraiser #climatesolutions #restorenature #restorenaturenow #marchforcleanwater #river #pollution #pollutionfree #donate #support #donation #nonprofit Mark Lloyd

✨ WE NEED YOUR HELP! ✨ . Did you know that the EPA estimates that over 600 million tons of construction/demolition debris is thrown into landfills each year - that’s hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of furniture, cabinets, doors, windows, slabs of stone, and more, that could have easily been diverted and reused. . At Stardust, it is our mission to provide affordable reclaimed, salvaged, or other gently used supplies for homes, businesses, and nonprofits around us. We are passionate about reuse and are proud to support our community. But we can’t do it without YOU! 💖🏠 . As a nonprofit, most of our inventory comes from material donations from homeowners like you. While these items no longer have a place in your homes, by donating them, you are helping to provide one-of-a-kind, reclaimed treasures for someone else who needs them. Your materials donations can (literally) help build our community and invest in making it stronger. . We believe that we can #StarveTheLandfill ♻️ but we need YOUR HELP. . YOU WILL make a difference in our community when you donate to Stardust. .
