Today (November 19th) is International Men’s Day, a day to celebrate the positive contributions men make to our families, communities, and society as a whole. It’s also an opportunity to reflect on the unique challenges men face, including mental health struggles, societal expectations, and the often-unspoken pressures of providing and protecting.
As someone who balances work, family life, and passions like rugby and gaming, I know how easy it is to put ourselves last. International Men’s Day reminds us of the importance of recognising our own value while encouraging others to do the same.
This year’s theme is about “making a difference for men and boys,” which highlights the importance of creating a supportive world for the next generation. Whether it’s teaching young boys the importance of respect, showing kindness to one another, or creating safe spaces to talk about emotions, there’s so much we can do to make a difference.
So today, let’s:
• Celebrate the men in our lives for their achievements, big or small.
• Start conversations about mental health—check in with a mate or open up about your own feelings.
• Break the stigma around asking for help, because true strength is knowing when to lean on others.
To all the dads, brothers, sons, partners, and mates out there—you matter, and so does your voice.
Happy International Men’s Day! 💙
