Yesterday, I had the privilege of moderating a panel discussion at the launch event of Bower School of Entrepreneurship - India's first full-time undergraduate program dedicated to nurturing the next generation of business innovators. First and foremost, a huge kudos to the young visionary founder, Pavan Allena. His initiative and drive in creating this revolutionary program are truly commendable. Pavan's vision for Bower School of Entrepreneurship is set to transform the landscape of business education in India. The panel I moderated, "Entrepreneurial Education as a Mainstream Degree," brought together four distinguished leaders from academia and industry: - Mr. Sridhar Gadhi, Founder of Quantela Inc - Mr. Prakash Bodla, Managing Director of Carrier - Ms. Sindhura Indukuri, Founder & Managing Director of TSUS & TSRA - Mr. Chandrashekar D P, PhD Our discussion explored the transformative potential of integrating entrepreneurship into mainstream education. The insights shared by these visionaries reinforced the critical need for programs like Bower's that blend academic rigor with real-world entrepreneurial skills. As someone deeply committed to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship, I'm excited to see initiatives like Bower shaping the future of business education in India. This program represents a significant step towards equipping our youth with the mindset and tools they need to thrive in today's dynamic business landscape. One of my most challenging training sessions was with these 35 dedicated individuals—most older than me—who’ve been serving their communities by distributing rations to BPL families through a government initiative. Now, with the government’s program to make them entrepreneur-ready, they have the chance to channel their energy into building their own ventures. When I entered, I sensed their unspoken question: “What will this young girl teach us?” Nervous but determined, I started with an icebreaker, making everyone comfortable. I’d prepared digital and marketing tips, but soon realized they needed something else: confidence. Many shared feelings of self-doubt, triggered by comparisons—“Look at him, he has so little, yet he’s thriving.” We had a heartfelt discussion, and I shared a story that resonated with them. A young boy, angry, once shouted, “I hate you!” in the mountains. The mountains echoed back, “I hate you! I hate you!” Scared, he ran to his mother, who encouraged him to shout, “I love you!” Instead. When he did, the mountains echoed back, “I love you! I love you!” This story hit home. They understood that judgment brings judgment, but support brings support. We ended with a new perspective—if we uplift others, that positivity comes back to us. Now, they’re ready to embrace their entrepreneurial journeys, fueled by belief and positivity. "Age is Not Just a Number but an Opportunity" This is what I discovered from my experience as one of the authors of the recent report on the "State of Student Entrepreneurship in India", conducted by Campus Fund. The journey of creating this report was extremely insightful and filled with learning opportunities. We discovered that students naturally possess a 'founder mindset,' a theme extensively demonstrated in our report. This report captures the dynamic nature of this demographic, delves into the driving factors of their entrepreneurial transition, explores emerging trends and tailwinds, and highlights the opportunities awaiting student entrepreneurs building for the new 'Bharat.' I'm grateful to Richa Bajpai, Sanket Lahoti, Manjesh Basavarajaiah, and the entire Campus Fund team for the opportunity to co-author this report. Along the way, 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 from industry veterans is invaluable. Learning about their initial struggles and eventual success was enlightening and inspiring. Here are few 𝐤𝐞𝐲 takeaways: - 𝐒𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐓𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫: Even during tough times, unity within the team is crucial. - 𝐃𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: Identify and address even the smallest weaknesses each day. - 𝐒𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐬: Aim high and work diligently towards achieving those goals. - 𝐊𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐲 𝐍𝐎: It’s crucial to recognize when to decline opportunities or decisions that don’t align with your vision. Saying no can be as important as saying yes. Our conversation was not just educational but also exhilarating. It was a reminder that while the journey may seem daunting, it’s also incredibly exciting. I want to cheer for all the 𝐛𝐮𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐩𝐬 and their 𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬. Developing school teachers into entrepreneurship mentors can go a long way in instilling a spirit of entrepreneurship among children and students from a young age. Had a wonderful opportunity to train Prinicipals and School Teachers from different states of India on "Design Thinking and Entrepreneurial Mindset." The program was conducted by EDII, Ahmedabad. Discussion on entrepreneurial mindset, developing entrepreneurial competencies, design thinking and many other related topics of entrepreneurship made the class interesting and engaging.
