We all begin as helpless infants. None of us are born walking and talking. None of us are born with scientific knowledge or vocational, athletic, or artistic skills. None of us are born believing in a religious, political, racial or any other form of ideology.
We all start out learning to become who we can't help but learn to be within life environments we didn't choose to live in. The differences that make the differences between us are learned. We are always becoming who we can’t help but learn to become (until we learn to become otherwise).

Curating this #plugHGurukul session on understanding learning disabilities (LD) in children was an absolute enriching experience 💯. From uncovering surprising statistics to exploring different types of LDs, coping mechanisms, and parent support systems, the entire experience filled me with vehemence.
We often miss the subtle signs of learning disabilities. A child might genuinely struggle with letters and numbers, but their challenges may not be readily apparent. This is why the statistic that 10-12% of school children in India have LD is so concerning. Imagine, at least 4 children in your child's class could be silently grappling with these difficulties. These staggering numbers does states a lot.
With this post, I would like to sum-up some key takeaways for fellow parents 🤝 :
💡 Trust your gut: If something feels off, explore it. Early identification of LD is crucial.
💡 Early Signs: Difficulty grasping concepts, trouble forming letters/numbers, and avoiding academic tasks could be early indicators.
💡 Learning Differences Aren't Limitations: LD is neurological and doesn't reflect intelligence (average IQ is 70-130). A child with LD can have normal or even high IQ!
💡 Common LDs: Dyslexia (reading/writing challenges), Dyscalculia (math difficulties), Dyspraxia (motor coordination issues), and Auditory Processing Disorder (trouble processing sounds).
💡 There's Help Available: Collaborate with psychologists, special educators to create Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
💡 Coping Mechanisms: Pull-out programs and exam concessions are available for milder LDs.
💡 Emotional Support is Crucial: Help children navigate social interactions and build self-advocacy skills.
💡 You Are Not Alone: This journey doesn't have to be isolating. Be open.
☀ My final take, early identification and support, can go a long way in creating a more inclusive environment where all children can thrive.
A huge thank you to Anusuya P. for her meaningful insights all through and Aditi M. bringing the session to life!

I had the utmost privilege to host the 20th edition of #plugHGurukul - Parents ki Paathshaala, in conversation with the brilliant Anusuya Pradhan on 'Unlocking Your Child's Potential' last Friday!
As a #wellbeingconsultant, #socialscientist & #human, it is my sole purpose to empower individuals to achieve their latent potential - whatever way that may be.
So you can only image the absolute joy, the proud graduate of the IOE - UCL's Faculty of Education and Society in me had, to facilitate a ground-breaking conversation with a special educator on empowering parents to be able to unlock the hidden potential their children.
We talked about:
✍🏼Identifying Learning Disabilities (LD): We discussed the difference between slow learning and LDs.
👥 Supporting Children with LDs: We explored collaboration between special education departments, psychologists, educators etc.
🌳 Coping Mechanisms and Support Systems: within schools, at home and in the general environment.
👨👩👧 Strategies for Parents e.g. perception-based activities, assistive technology.
😔 Addressing Emotional Challenges: We recognized the power of connection & communication between parents and children
We closed on a powerful note, where Anusuya advised to be aware of & celebrate your child's unique strengths, accept them for they are & provide them, unwavering support no matter what.
Talking to Anusuya was a delight - she is equal parts gentle, firm, supportive & inspirational, and I hope that this conversation will be the first of many as we navigate our learning journeys as parents & facilitators for children with varying learning abilities.

Have you ever walked into a classroom and felt the weight of being trapped within its walls as a child? It’s a stark reminder that traditional education often feels misaligned with the freedom and exploration we desperately need to grow and thrive as human beings. After all, how much can a child truly learn about themselves and the world in an isolated room?
At Eculturo, we imagine a different kind of education—one where childhood is a time of joy, vitality, and exploration. Here, we are harnessing human-centered design to build spaces where children feel connected to both the life within and without, and are supported to grow into their full potential.
Because education should honor the magic of being a child. 🌱
