WHAT THE WORLD NEEDS NOW… Sharing a letter I just received with hopes that the next generation will do better than we are doing. Begin forwarded message: From: (Seeds of Peace)<info@seedsofpeace.org> Date: July 19, 2024 at 3:44:23 PM CDT Subject: Seeds of Peace Camp Dear Sharon, I had a reflection this morning. As I sat looking across the room from the back table of the Seeds of Peace Camp dining hall, I realized what was happening in the room was nothing short of a miracle. There are few places in this divided world where you will see people from the Middle East, South Asia, the UK, and the US coming together across lines of conflict, being their true selves, and sharing a meal. Since the Seeds of Peace Camp kicked off last week, campers have been busy meeting new people, engaging in dialogue, and trying activities that encourage them to grow out of their comfort zones, such as spoken word poetry, ultimate frisbee, and the ropes course. Each day has been filled with moments of joy, conflict, and the everyday experiences—both the mundane and the profound—that come from a journey like this. We’re at that point in the Camp session when emotions are running high. Dialogue groups are storming with conflict. Campers are wrestling with challenges to their preconceived notions; as we do every year, we’re telling our campers to trust the process. Just as Hands of Peace did, we’re creating space to practice a different way of being with each other. Forming connections across divides, getting to know one another as complex human beings, centering values of respect, curiosity, and empathy—this is all challenging and courageous work. And it gets messy. But it’s all worth it. This morning in the dining hall, I felt that everything we’ve worked hard for during this incredibly challenging year was truly paying off. I can’t wait to see where the journey of Camp takes us over the next week. Vishnu Vishnu Swaminathan Chief Operating Officer, Seeds of Peace

We Should All Learn to Be More Accommodating I've shared before that I recently had the chance to visit one of the world’s most iconic landmarks—the Forbidden City in China. The guided tour was amazing, and I always find that having a guide adds so much depth to these experiences. During the tour, there were two families with small children in our group. It’s easy to forget how challenging it can be for parents to navigate outings like this. At one point, we had to stop for a restroom break, and understandably, the families took a bit longer—maybe an extra 10-15 minutes. Some group members started getting visibly impatient, and when the family rejoined us, there were a few disapproving glances. Our guide made a point about valuing everyone’s time and keeping things moving. The family quickly apologized and said they didn’t want to hold us up. Turns out, the delay wasn’t even their fault—someone else was using the family restroom, and they had to wait. It made me think—sometimes, the frustration we feel is misplaced. They were just as frustrated as we were. Sure, there are times when we’re on tight schedules and have to rush. But often, we do have those extra 15 minutes. Maybe we could all benefit from slowing down and being a bit more understanding of those who need to move at a different pace—whether it’s families, the elderly, or anyone with different needs. Let's make sure we take a deep breath and slow down when life doesn’t demand urgency. It’s often in those moments that we find space for growth and meaningful learning.

Each year, around 80% of campers return to Cheley, but some decide not to come back. Why? Work, school, family trips, and sports often pull them in different directions. We spend much of the off-season reaching out to families, especially non-returning, to learn from their experiences. Not every family is open to having this conversation, and that’s okay. We’re always here to listen because we genuinely care. Camp is a unique investment in growth, resilience, and lifelong friendships—qualities that go beyond a summer schedule. Curious to know what we’ve learned from these conversations? Check out our latest blog post! https://lnkd.in/g5EKWFHw

Overcoming Mountains: It’s All About the Team Every day, our work brings challenges that feel like climbing mountains. And let me tell you, the view from the top isn’t just about personal accomplishment—it’s about the team who made the journey with you. At Congressional School our Auxiliary Team is the backbone of everything we do. Whether it’s planning vibrant after-school activities, ensuring smooth transitions between programs, organizing buses, delivering snacks, or creating childcare days that kids and families rave about, this team does it all with heart and hustle. We don’t just manage logistics; we create opportunities for growth, learning, and connection. From debating future ideas to playing a round of golf after school, our programs build more than skills—they build character. I’ve seen firsthand that the success of any endeavor depends on the people walking beside you. My team isn’t just a group of professionals; they’re problem-solvers, dreamers, and collaborators who care deeply about the families we serve. Gene Giammittorio @thomashoward Levi Herrera Climbing mountains is never easy, but with the right people, you find strength in every step. I’m proud to stand with my team and reach new heights together. Here’s to the PACE team—the heart of our mission and the reason we keep climbing. What mountains are you climbing today? Who’s your team? Let’s celebrate the people who make the journey possible. #Teamwork #AuxiliaryPrograms #Leadership #Collaboration #Education #School #Congressional

These are what I have observed (after spending 3 weeks on the field) For the past 3 weeks these are what I will love to work on. {this would be helpful, if you are currently on field} —)) Be ready for every field trip (financially, physically and spiritually) —))Your learning start from day one, so be observant —)) Value teamwork —)) A new city might disrupt your daily goals, so be sensitive not to turn unproductive —)) Keep your relationship with God standing…….(a new environment doesn’t change your lifestyle and relationship with God) —)) Stay in touch with your family members The fieldwork is an experience and am happy to learn every bit of it . . . What point, out of these is your takeaway? #publichealth #fieldwork #communityexperience #120dayslinkedinspree

Reading about the impact of nature-based residential treatment on teenagers has truly opened my eyes to the transformative power of the great outdoors. 🌿 The blend of nature immersion and clinical support is a game-changer in helping teens heal and thrive. Here are some key takeaways that resonated with me: - Assessment & Stabilization: The initial focus on assessment and stabilization is crucial for creating a safe space for teens to begin their healing journey. Providing an environment where they feel genuinely safe is the first step towards progress. - Engage & Empower: Engaging teens in therapy and empowering them with essential life skills can lead to long-term healing and growth. It's inspiring to see how therapeutic programs like ThreePeaks Ascent are re-engaging teens in healthy development. - Competence, Master, & Leadership: Guiding teenagers towards developing competence and mastery not only builds resilience but also fosters self-confidence and a sense of purpose. Nietzsche's words on happiness and power resonated deeply in this context. Share your thoughts on this approach to teen therapy. How do you feel about integrating nature and clinical care for holistic healing? 🌱💬 #TeenTherapy #NatureHeals #HolisticHealing https://lnkd.in/gC8hBj5f
