How can virtual reality make international sea travel safer? ⚓ An immersive virtual reality (VR) solution means port inspectors can now interact and familiarize themselves with realistic representations of the technical areas of ships, enhancing their capacity to carry out thorough sanitation inspections. During a 4-day training held in Istanbul, Türkiye, participants from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan tested the new VR tool. It can be used remotely, helping users learn how to conduct an end-to-end sanitation inspection of the entire ship, including risk assessment work, and how to interact with the captain and crew. When fully launched, it will benefit over 230 ports in the WHO European Region. These ports are at the forefront of prevention, detection and response to public health events arising from international travel and trade via sea. “Using the VR, we can walk through the various areas onboard the ship, from the “clean” to the “dirty” areas – for example, starting at the ship’s hospital and then going to the engine room and the cargo holds,” explains Kevin Carlisle, Technical Lead of the project at WHO/Europe. Read more here👉 https://bit.ly/42jorgM The VR training was organised by WHO/Europe with support from the WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan. #publichealth #shipsanitation #preparedness
