🐢Thanks The University of Western Australia for inviting Aunty Lois May and Poppy van Oorde-Grainger from Same Drum to speak to your Enviro Management students about the Galup project. 🐸
We took a group of 60 Master of Environmental Science students to Galup (Lake Monger) as part of a unit on Environmental Management. They heard from Nyoongar Elder Aunty Lois May, artist and film-maker Poppy van Oorde-Grainger (Same Drum), Kelli Trajkovski from the Friends of Galup, and Natural Environment Officer Karen Schmidt from the Town of Cambridge. Such a great case study to show the students how urban wetlands and waterways can be so rich in heritage and history, and how ecology and culture need to go hand in hand in the management, restoration and healing of these places. A great lesson too on the importance of meaningful collaboration between different voices. A heartfelt thank you to the four speakers for sharing their time, knowledge, and perspectives with the students, and a big thank you to Natasha Pauli for her support in running the field trip on the day.
