In his own inimitable way Ken Burns provided the graduating class of Brandeis University what I consider a most brilliant commencement speech this year. My four key take-aways: 1. Leadership is humility and generosity. 2. Remember the opposite of faith is not doubt. Doubt is central to faith. The opposite of faith is certainty. 3. Don't confuse success with excellence. 4. Insist that we support science and the arts, especially the arts. They have nothing to do with the defense of our country; they just make our county worth defending. The presentation on the Forbes MBA program and its outcome value for student's and secondarily the economy. It is likely the largest MBA program in the world with an increasingly global footprint. Alhamdulillah for the trust given, and InshaAllah, I am ready to share my knowledge with both students and lecturers. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to introduce more realistic issues, challenges, and practical applications into discussions. This approach aims to ensure that both lecturers and students develop a more practical perspective, moving beyond theoretical ideals and avoiding frustration when faced with real-world realities that may not meet overly high expectations.

Saluting African American female professors -- Past and Present This week, the African American Female Professor Award Association in Massachusetts will induct its 2024 class of educators. A special thanks to Traci Talbert, founder of the African American Female Professor Awards for her leadership. According to a U.S. News and World Report survey of nearly 1,000 colleges and universities, "...only about 7% of full-time faculty in fall 2022 were Black. The majority of full-time faculty in 2022 – 72% – were white." U.S. News also reports that " things haven't changed much from fall 2018," based on similar data from the National Center for Education Statistics, which found that 75% of full-time U.S. faculty were white." Reflecting on the impactful discussions at the recently concluded #AYGS has been truly inspiring. It was an honor to share the high-level panel stage, discussing the pivotal role of STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation) and STISA (Science, Technology, and Innovation Strategy for Africa) in accelerating the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). I want to give special thanks to the HSRC (Human Sciences Research Council), Palesa Sekhejane and our amazing moderator Fatai Aremu, and my esteemed co-panelists: Honorable Mahlangu, the High Commissioner of the Republic of South Africa to Kenya, brought impressive diplomatic expertise to the table, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in fostering regional economic integration. Mmboneni Muofhe, Director General of the Department of Science and Technology South Africa, for his thought leadership, sharing strategic perspectives on how leveraging STI can drive sustainable development and enhance Africa's competitiveness in global trade. Dr. Sultani Matendechero ‘ndc’(K), Director General of the Ministry of Health Kenya, showcased insightful leadership in highlighting the intersection of health innovation and trade. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts to address healthcare challenges and think through the next pandemic while promoting trade opportunities. Michael Mandu, an International Trade Relations Expert at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kenya, demonstrated expertise in trade policies and regulations, shedding light on the role of STI in enhancing trade facilitation and fostering economic growth. The rousing opening remarks by Sarah Mosoetsa (PhD), CEO of HSRC, set the tone for the conference, inspiring attendees to leverage their ideas and expertise to propel Africa forward.
