AI is transforming the creative industry, offering rapid content creation but raising concerns over IP theft. In April 2023, an AI-generated image controversially won Sony’s World Photography Awards 📸 Recently, the tables have turned: photographer Miles Astray won third place in an AI photo competition but was disqualified after revealing his photo was real... His artwork, F L A M I N G O N E, highlights the irreplaceable value of human-made content 🦩 Miles stated, “Creativity and emotion are more than just a string of digits.” 🌟 How do you think AI will shape the future of the creative industry? 🤔 Source in comments

After the initial hysteria over the potential of AI photography to replace the real thing, we're now seeing some real debate about the subject. "As new technology such as generative AI (which can create photos or videos from a prompt) makes photo editing and creating fake images easier, press agencies are starting to discuss how to handle it." Fake it till you make it! I've seen a post on youtube, of a photographer, appealing to the community to reject GenAI. He was saying that we are losing our soul and that we are building a fake reality around us. That by using AI we are building a fake narrative to evade and replace our own reality. I would argue that we are already past that point. Therefor, i'm embracing GenAI, even if i am a photographer. I don't consider GenAI a killer of photography but a different tool of creating visuals. I can keep doing photography, i would even start doing analog photography and develop pictures if I could afford to indulge in something as exotic as that. But for now I'm gonna play with this new toy. Here's a example of memography. A type of a "entangled image", that is and it is not real at the same time. It is real because it's a memory of mine. But it's not real because it's been generated digitally. Not entirely generated by AI but enhanced by it. I build a sketch of my memory, I modeled a scene, as I remember it and than I put it trough #comfyui. And because I use this workflow where Gen AI is used as a tool not as a prompt generator, I got a "not likely to contain AI-generated or deepfake content" verdict - 1,1% out of 100 - from a AI-generated content detector. I think this allows me to still consider myself a visual creator and not promptywriter. What do you think? #blender #comfyui

It’s time to let the cat out of the bag about AI generated images… I have been asked multiple times about the images I use for my posts on this site. For my “Friday moment of Zen” content, I’m using my own photography. For other posts, I’m typically using DALL•E, which is the GenAI image generator from OpenAI. One of the common responses I get to the use of GenAI is that I am taking away work from real human artists. That’s a tough one. As a photographer, I’m keenly aware of the fact that AI has the potential to replace revenue streams for creators. Sadly, I don’t have a budget for artwork for my posts, so it’s not as if I’m taking away money from potential recipients there. And I would love to use my own photos for every post, but I don’t always have something suitable for the topic I’m writing about. Finally, I do find that working with and tweaking prompts is a creative process, even if I’m not the one actually creating the final image. Sometimes it might take a dozen attempts to get something I am happy with. I know there has been a proliferation of AI-generated images on this site, so the goal is to produce something that is not only relevant but makes my post stand out. What are your thoughts on AI imagery? [This is a picture of my cat that was enhanced by AI to show her in the style of a Leonardo Da Vinci portrait]

I have a passion for photography and the entire process involved. Collaborating with exceptional talents and wonderful individuals is what makes photography akin to playing in a band for me. It's all about improvisation, creativity, and embracing mistakes, allowing something new to emerge beyond your control. When I start shooting, I enter a state of hyperfocus that I adore; it's all about being present in that moment. However, over the past two years, the realm of AI has been rapidly expanding. My initial encounters were a mix of skepticism and curiosity. The future role of AI in my field remains uncertain; will it become a powerful tool or potentially replace human photographers altogether? I can't say for sure. The process with AI is quite different from collaborating in a studio with fellow artists – it's more like composing music alone in a room. Still, there's an intriguing aspect to this solitude; it opens up new avenues for creativity. I must admit, it could be quite enjoyable. Let's see where this journey takes us. Now, when I engage with the AI, I feel that same hyperfocus again, and it's thrilling to see what it can produce with my instructions …

The rise of #AI in #photography is fascinating me and throwing up some genuine ethical dilemmas - are we about to enter the age of 'it's a memory, not a photo'? Sure it's one thing to get rid of red-eye or make a photo clearer - but where does this lead? Given misinformation is rife all over the web, how do these tools contribute to our image-based record of history? Is this harmless memory-capturing or are we walking away from photos as a moment of time? What do you think? #GooglePixel
