On 22nd January 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, established the Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (AIATC). This pioneering initiative is set to transform Abu Dhabi into a global powerhouse for AI and advanced technology investments, partnerships, and talent. AIATC Roles and Responsibilities: - Develop financing, investment, and research plans for AI and advanced technology in collaboration with local and international partners. - Foster Abu Dhabi’s strategy to become a hub for investments, partnerships, and expertise in AI and advanced technology. - Identify investment priorities and mechanisms for R&D in AI and advanced technology. - Initiate, implement, and activate investment and research initiatives in AI and advanced technology, and develop supporting digital infrastructure. The establishment of the AIATC reflects the bold vision and emphasizing the importance of technological leadership in building a future-ready economy. H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, has launched the 'Dubai Research, Development, and Innovation (RDI) Grant Initiative' to fund groundbreaking research in key economic sectors. The initiative, overseen by the Dubai Future Foundation (DFF), will support up to 20 research projects, focusing on Cognitive Cities and Health and Life Sciences, utilizing advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics. The initiative stems from the Dubai Research and Development Programme, launched by Sheikh Hamdan in September 2022. This program aims to establish a comprehensive framework to increase R&D investment, foster public-private partnerships, and position Dubai as a global hub for scientific innovation. The RDI initiative will prioritize projects in areas like Smart Mobility, Traffic Management, and Precision Medicine. DFF will collaborate with local and international partners, including universities and research institutions, to drive innovation in AI and Robotics across sectors such as healthcare, construction, and aviation. This initiative aligns with Dubai's vision to bolster its economic agility, strengthen national efforts, and prepare for transformative global changes, ensuring Dubai remains a leader in emerging sectors.

As Saudi Arabia prepares to host prestigious global events like the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, the 2029 Asian Winter Games in NEOM, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the need for a state-of-the-art facility that integrates sports medicine, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement has never been more urgent. I am leading the development of an innovative, world-class center designed to set new global benchmarks in sports health. Aligned with Vision 2030, this center will leverage cutting-edge technology, AI-driven analytics, and advanced bioengineering to deliver personalized, data-driven treatments that redefine standards in sports medicine. This initiative doesn’t just address a market gap; it positions Saudi Arabia as a global leader in sports health and performance. With the global sports medicine market projected to surpass $15 billion by 2030, this project presents a rare investment opportunity. Beyond treatment, our center will house an educational academy to train the next generation of doctors, physiotherapists, and coaches, as well as a sports academy to nurture young talent. A dedicated research hub will focus on injury prevention and performance optimization, fostering breakthroughs in sports science. Today, I’m concluding my reflections on the Global Health Exhibition by discussing the third and final pillar: action. After focusing on innovation and collaboration, it’s time to highlight how concrete steps are being taken to bring these visions to life. 
The GHE was not just about ideas but about actionable outcomes. Many of the projects and innovations presented were already in various stages of implementation, highlighting how the Health Sector Transformation Program is driving rapid, meaningful change. From primary healthcare reform to the expansion of specialized care, the exhibition showcased practical steps being taken to improve healthcare delivery across the Kingdom. The focus on action underscores the importance of moving from theory to practice, and this was evident in every corner of the GHE. The clear message was that Saudi Arabia is not only planning for the future but actively building it, with the health sector being one of the main beneficiaries. It was a real privilege for Phytome Life Sciences, a biotech company that thinks differently about medicine, to be invited to attend the UK government Healthcare trade mission to Saudi Arabia, rubbing shoulders with the stalwarts of British and Saudi healthcare at the UK Embassy in Riyadh, ahead of the Global Health Exhibition - ملتقى الصحة العالمي Listening to Professor Steve Field CBE, Special Healthcare Representative to Saudi Arabia and Dr Anna van Poucke, Global Head of Healthcare at KPMG, a realisation crystallised for me: The issues facing Saudi Arabia are not unique to Saudi - They are the ubiquitous challenge of being human. Living out our hopes, ambitions, fears and the trauma we inherit and acquire along the way, and our very human coping responses to them. Left unaddressed, these patterns unconsciously lead us into pathways of complex chronic non-communicable disease, such as Type-II Diabetes, which is rapidly escalating in the Kingdom. This is therefore far more nuanced than I think classical healthcare is able to serve. Sure, we all desire, and must strive for, medical devices, medicines, hospitals and expert physicians when we need them. But the subtle art of recognising our damaging patterns, rewiring and making a choice today for the health of our future selves is some of the hardest work we will do as individuals and as a society. But once begun in earnest, the returns on investment are exponential. I commend Saudi Arabia for placing well-being, lifestyle and quality of life KPIs in Saudi Vision 2030, when it would be far easier to solely respond to the rapidly escalating chronic disease burden with capacity to treat the outcome not the root.
