🌍 Empowering Youth for Community Leadership: A Step Towards Sustainable Development 🌱 On 10th September 2024, Samerth successfully organized an interactive workshop with 15 passionate youth cadres, led by Krupaben Dholakia. The workshop began with an insightful session on the concept of Youth Cadres and their vital role in community leadership. Through engaging group activities, the participants got to know each other better, followed by a social mapping exercise where each cadre mapped their village, highlighting key public places such as panchayats, temples, schools, and essential infrastructure. They also identified local leadership and committee structures, giving a comprehensive overview of their communities. Key discussions on employment challenges brought forward 7 critical areas of interest for the youth cadres: 1. Access to government schemesParticipation in Gram Sabha 2. Strengthening governance 3. Exploring solar energy solutions 4. Enhancing computer literacy 5. Entrepreneurship and local shops 6. Promoting organic farming 7. Advancing biogas initiatives It’s inspiring to see the commitment of these young leaders to driving positive change in their communities. Together, they are paving the way for sustainable development and local governance. Social Work, Political Leadership, and the Future of Environmental Advocacy "I don't want to be a doctor or engineer; I want to be a politician." These words, spoken by a 9th-grade student during a focus group discussion in my research, still resonate with me. His voice was strong, fueled by frustration over the environmental challenges he witnessed daily. His belief? Real change needs power—as a politician, he felt he could deliver the justice, the environment desperately needs. This moment was eye-opening, highlighting how children's aspirations are shaped by their awareness of social and environmental issues. It underscored the need to nurture future leaders—those who are not just professionals, but environmentally conscious and socially committed. #EnvironmentalAdvocacy #SocialWork #Leadership #GreenSocialWork #Sustainability #Research #FocusGroupDiscussion# Kerala Association of Professional Social Workers
