“Jõeorg” awarded third prize in Maakri Quarter Competition Lunden Architecture Company has received third prize in the open architecture and urban space competition for their proposal of a resilient new quarter in Maakri, Tallinn. “Jõeorg” proposes a contemporary urban river valley that will serve as the city’s blue-green heart. The design reintroduces a natural, functioning river landscape reminiscent of the historic Härjapea River, creating a vital green and blue artery to meet both current and future environmental needs. Strategically located between local and tourist attractions, Jõeorg aims to be a dynamic and inclusive destination for residents and visitors, blending the past and future in one biodiverse and culturally rich environment within Tallinn’s iconic skyline. The proposal was developed by Lundén Architecture Company in collaboration with Tallinn-based office, Arhitekt11. The two offices are currently constructing Raadi Daycare, the first building in their winning design for the Raadi Educational and Community Centre. Our vision proposal for Basra Park Location: Basra, Iraq The vision for the park centers around a symbolic design that honors the past, present, and future. "The Buttress of Time" is a 100-meter-tall monument composed of three architectural buttresses, each representing these temporal phases. The design integrates water, landscape, and plaza elements to create a reflective and commemorative space for martyrs. Just got reminded that I am a bit older than I thought… 😅 During my architecture studies, the Malagueira Quarter in Évora, Portugal, reached its completion after two decades of development in 1997. While on a summer vacation road trip through Portugal 🇵🇹, I visited this iconic neighborhood today and was struck by how its design, over 30 years old, remains a testament to #sustainable and adaptable urban planning. Álvaro Siza’s vision allowed residents the freedom to modify their units, creating a dynamic and personalized community space. This flexibility has fostered a unique #identity for Malagueira, seamlessly blending with the historic fabric of Évora while standing as a distinct entity. The project’s enduring success lies in its commitment to serving the community, rather than seeking architectural grandeur. Siza’s approach, integrating low-rise, terraced houses with innovative infrastructure akin to ancient aqueducts, emphasizes functionality and harmony with the landscape.
