LinkedIn, if you don't already know Deborah Collier, then where have you even been!?! But if you haven't, we very helpfully had a chat with her. Enjoy! WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT JOB ROLE AND TITLE? I am a Senior Legal Recruitment Consultant and manage recruitment across Scotland covering positions from legal support through to Partner level. WHAT DREW YOU BACK TO EMPLOYED AGENCY RECRUITMENT AFTER A PERIOD OF TIME RUNNING YOUR OWN REC BUSINESS? I missed being part of a team, having people to bounce ideas off, pick you up when you are having a rough time, that’s not to be underestimated. One of the great things about working with QED Legal is you are in charge of your own desk, it is very much like having your own business, you have autonomy, you are not micromanaged but there is HUGE support open to us. This ranges from colleague interaction through to bespoke, dedicated one on one training. I don’t know of anywhere else that offers so much. WHAT MAKES SCOTLAND A UNIQUE MARKET TO RECRUIT INTO? The variety of roles in the Scottish legal market really is remarkable. I think from those people looking to enter the legal field for the first time and for more experienced professionals there are great opportunities out there. I think the legal landscape as we know it shall continue to change and most likely we shall see more mergers. I also think if there’s more of a switch to ABS models it will open up the sector further and bring a greater sense of entrepreneurship and again will lead to more exciting changes and opportunities within the market. YOU WORK REMOTELY. HOW EASY IS IT TO FEEL PART OF SOMETHING FROM A DISTANCE? For me, having worked independently previously I find remote working easy but it’s not for everyone. The advantage of working with QED Legal is we are a good tight knit team, we have weekly in house informal training sessions which lead to some great discussions and exchange of ideas and opinions. These are a great opportunity for me to see all my colleagues. I’m also in touch with the senior management team, I speak to my own Manager on a daily basis, sometimes several times a day, and I know I can pick up the phone at any time if I need support. We are a very social bunch and our summer and Christmas get togethers are legendary. WHAT PERSONALITY TRAITS MAKE YOU IDEAL FOR THIS ROLE? Resilience, humour, grit and empathy. #legalrecruitment #lawjobs #legalcareers #legalroles

What Alternative Legal Services Providers do we know❓ You probably use Alternative Legal Services Providers as part of your role, or at least are aware of them. Do you limit your search for Legal PAs/EAs to a specific, long-standing set of criteria? While this approach may streamline your hiring process, it could also restrict your talent pool and cause you to miss out on valuable candidates. BUT .... My clients have found great success by hiring PAs without direct legal experience. These candidates have brought a fresh, commercial perspective, innovative approaches to technology and workflow, and a unique understanding of the client experience. What you will miss out on? The below has all come from clients who have recently recruited PAs who did not have legal experience 'We have had the opportunity to bring into our firm talent that has a great commercial eye due to industry experience gained from outside of legal.' 'Our new hire has shown us potential new ways of working that no one in the firm is utilising.' 'Sam, their use and experience of technology that our clients are using but our firm isn't as yet is beyond valuable!' 'The experience of being a client and providing a critical eye how fee earners and teams work is a real USP and is already helping us to retain clients!' By expanding your criteria, you could uncover talented individuals who offer new insights and ideas to enhance your firm's operations and client relationships. Are you ready to unlock these benefits and stay ahead of the competition? If so, let's connect to discuss how we can help you identify the right candidates, regardless of their background. Reach out to me today to learn more. #legalrecruitment

How LinkedIn uses Skills on your profile to match you with career opportunities: This is a recording of my screen as I am posting a new job ad for an in-house tech lawyer. I've already drafted the job ad, and now LinkedIn is asking me to select the required skills for the role. You can see the process in the video. Once I post the job, it will attempt to push the job to the users who have matching skills on their profiles. If you are a commercial tech lawyer, make sure to include the skills from the video into your ‘Skills’ section. This way you should get discovered for the right kind of opportunities - and hopefully minimise irrelevant jobs landing in your inbox! ----------- If you're new to my network 🔔 — I am a specialist recruiter for In-House Legal roles in Tech companies covering the UK, Europe, Middle East and North America with 16,500+ network of lawyers working for tech companies — My agency Found Legal is a preferred supplier to EMEA in-house legal teams of Tech companies, both small and large, including Fortune 100 Tech multinationals — If you are looking to hire an in-house lawyer please feel free to email me hiring@found.legal message me here on LinkedIn — I also send out a weekly newsletter with GC-level jobs coming to market at general-counsel-jobs.com — feel free to subscribe and stay in touch.

"How's the market?" Short answer - it's looking promising. After a slow-ish end to the financial year (which always happens) our clients are in growth mode. Plenty of new opportunities coming to market, and a lot of movement off the back of lawyers receiving their pay increases, bonuses and promotions. Can't see it slowing down any time soon. It's a great time to be looking in-house. As always, some segments of the market are busier than others. Most of the roles we have available are at the 2 - 8 PQE level. It's still challenging for senior lawyers as opportunities are limited, and processes are very competitive. Some industries are also performing better than others. Tech is still lagging a little, but we are noticing a few roles trickling through in that space. Jake's exceptionally busy across the renewable energy and projects space. He's got 10 live roles available for construction, projects and property lawyers, in Sydney and Melbourne. Toby is working on a number of really exciting opportunities with consumer businesses. Think iconic global retail giants, and household-name Australian FMCG companies. He's also got a few roles in the healthcare and medical devices sectors. Again, across Sydney and Melbourne. I've got opportunities available across the retail, healthcare, investment management, financial services and charity sectors. Below is a snapshot of what we're working on. Please reach out to me if you're interested in discussing an in-house move, or if you're a General Counsel / Recruitment Manager looking to hire a lawyer (at any level). If you know anyone looking to move in-house, send them my way and we'll offer a generous referral incentive (usually $2 - $5k depending on the seniority level) if we place them in a role.
💥IN HOUSE OPPORTUNITIES💥 We’re working on a number of exciting In-House roles across Australia. We are searching for talented lawyers to join successful teams across several exciting industries. If any of these roles sound right for you, get in touch with a member of the Beacon Legal In-House team. Matthew Edwards | Jake Hayden-Smith | Toby Orr

Legal Recruitment: 𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐮𝐬 and 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 schemes. I speak to a lot of people in Legal recruitment. There are many different ways of winning business, that all have different costs associated. For example, sponsoring events is a huge cost. And those costs have impact on both top line and bottom line. Meanwhile, some people are just a desk, a phone and a coffee. Do you think bonus/commission should be a portion of 𝐑𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞, or 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐢𝐭? ---- If you're looking for a new role, with a better package: - Drop me a note on Linkedin 📩 - Email me joe@timberseed.com 📧 - Set up a call 📞 #legal #recruitment #commission
