I have written much about this in my book 3 years ago. Interesting read and future direction of potential change in policy.

It’s great to see these innovative ideas for adding more flex for teachers - 9-day fortnights and hybrid schooling etc. BUT through our work with MATs and schools at Flexible Teacher Talent we know: Flex doesn’t have to be a huge, innovative revolution to work! Some small things that might make a huge difference to individual teachers and school leaders: Allowing PPA or non-contact time to be taken off-site (15% of schools already do this!) Time off to attend appointments/your own children’s school events - without losing pay/feeling guilty/having to beg Removal of pointless face-to-face meetings/events/CPD - not everything has to be in person and if it could have been an email…. Many of the individuals we work with don’t leave or feel unhappy or hard done by because they can’t have hybrid working or a 9 day fortnight, they leave because they can’t return from maternity part-time, because they can’t have one late start or early finish a week to do their own child’s drop off/pick up or because they aren’t trusted to do their PPA/management time from home or can’t progress to TLR/SLT positions because they work part time. The #missingmothers report highlighted the impact of lack of flex on mothers but it isn’t just mums. The MTPT Project There is so much we can do better on as a sector in terms of flexible working without revolutionising the timetable and where and how students are taught! Schools leaders who don’t currently do a good job on flex aren’t going to move to hybrid learning or a 9 day fortnight but they could try letting more people work part time or do remote PPA and I’d bet that would be plenty enough for many teachers and school leaders to stay and be happy.

A huge congratulations to the 186 Tanglin students who successfully passed their IGCSEs this year, with 91% of grades A*-B equivalent (9-6). These results are particularly impressive when compared to schools in England. 2024 results highlights include: ⭐ 55% of all grades were A* or equivalent (9-8) ⭐ 77% were A*- A or equivalent (9-7) ⭐ 99% of grades were A*- C or equivalent (9-4) It’s remarkable to note that 77% of Tanglin students’ grades were A* to A, compared to just 46.6% in Independent Schools in England.
