Writing and self-publishing a book is hard enough, but it can be pretty demoralising when you've done all that work and then can't even get someone to read your blurb. When I self-published my first book in 2021 I got lucky. I crowd funded the book on Kickstarter, got promoted by them as a 'Project We Love'. I attracted a handful of backers who I didn't know but I was able to promote my books through social media to an extensive network of friends and colleagues. In no time at all I had raised $10K, the project was backed and the books were published. I was elated. BUT, this wasn't the case with my second book. I realise why, now. My friends' support and kindness only stretched so far. Although I got great feedback about my first book, it just wasn't a genre that many of my friends were interested in: historical fiction. In fact, a lot of them didn't really read books at all. If I knew that then, I would have marketed that book VERY differently and sought out readers who love reading historical fiction. Thankfully, there are a lot of useful resources on the internet to guide self-published authors and I am now on track to getting my books in front of readers who enjoy reading historical fiction. If you're one of them, you can read my Australia's Black History series for free on Booksprout (one of those useful resources I mentioned). https://lnkd.in/eipM6ayB
