Project after project, the Brandon Downtown Development Corporation (BDDC) continues to assist downtown Brandon businesses mitigate the impact of continued economic challenges faced by SMEs. Our business improvement grant facilitates services targeted to provide specific supports that help downtown businesses adapt to the current environment and build business resiliency. Today, I had the pleasure of attending a thought-provoking lunch symposium hosted by Innovative Housing Opportunities, Inc. (IHO) and their inspiring President & CEO, Rochelle Mills. The discussion was as lively as it was impactful, centering on actionable solutions for the ongoing challenges in financing housing projects. One of Rochelle's powerful soundbites truly resonated with me: "Units delayed are units denied." It’s a reminder that every setback in housing development directly affects people’s lives. The conversation also covered the importance of turning adversaries into advocates—a skill we all need to adopt if we’re to make real strides in building sustainable communities. Beyond just providing a roof, there was a call for creating housing that fosters community and enhances the overall experience of those who live there. It’s clear that these efforts require the collaboration and commitment of all of us. Together, we can drive the changes needed to transform housing into a platform for thriving, resilient communities.
