This video tells the story of Ruo Emoh (Our Home) a housing project I was priveledged enough to work on in 2016. The project stands testament to a communities two decade struggle against adversity of every type to build well located homes for their families. Take a look below and let me know what you think?
PEP played a pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of fifty homes to the Ruo Emoh community in Mitchell’s Plain, Cape Town. Watch the video to discover the intricate story behind this project.

Third places are integral in fostering the development of both individual and collective identities beyond the confines of the home and the workplace. These spaces serve as social hubs and significantly contribute to social wellbeing, a vital concern in today's context of escalating social isolation.
Even if one may not always actively engage in social interactions within third places, the mere act of showing up holds significance. It plays a pivotal role in alleviating feelings of loneliness and cultivating a sense of community. For some, these environments offer a sanctuary where they can seek solace amidst the company of others, observing and absorbing the ambiance and background chatter, thereby contributing to their overall sense of well-being.
Life is fragile, yet its value is immeasurable. Today, on #RedMonday, let's reflect on the importance of cherishing and protecting every life. Hello All,
Let's get real.
This project is another masterpiece of Mr. Steven Levene/COO of Metrolinx.
The steel span Through Plate Girder over existing Tracks at Newmarket 4.90 Davenport has many structural concerns.
Mr. steven leven/(current COO of Metrolinx/ by then VP of RailCiorridor) decided to create a Risk Assessment Team Meeting (on Friday, June 4, 2021 1:30 PM-3:30 PM, ) and chaired this Team meeting.
Created +/-35 pages of check marks, and he concluded that:
all are good, the Case Closed!
The above case was opened by an engineer (Name DELETED] of RailCorridor to begin with.
the steel span was a Through Plate Girder, TPG, +/-100 ft long, double track, and amazingly, Direct Fixation.
Why Direct Fixation instead of Ballasted Deck?
Everyone knows that Direct Fixation will reduce the life-span of the bridge from +100 years to around 30 years.
well Metrolinx has the answer!!!
Also, the girders have top and bottom flange splices, as well as web splices exactly at the same location: one series on the North side of the span and one series on the south side.
the above splices means that the weakest point of the top flange is aligned with the weakest point of the web and aligned with the weakest point of bottom flange, at two separate locations, one on the North side and one on the south side.
you do the math!!!
If you want more information, please let me know.
Also, on September 18th and 19th, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, during the Arema Annual Conference, Metrolinx gave a presentation regarding the elevated bridge at Davenport Diamond, Newmarket sub/MX, and New Toronto Sub/(of a real railway).
Ironically, Metrolinx did not talk about this portion (steel double track TOG crossing over the existing tracks of another railway) of the project.
the bridge designer was not part of the presenter team.
The bridge contractor was not part of the presenter team. I doubt that there was even a representative of the actual designer and the actual contractor team at Arema 2024.
The people at the Arema Conf. 2024 were asking why?
Well, the answer is: there is a series of serious issues with that steel span bridge over the New Toronto Tracks.
Stay tuned for more info.

Calling #housing#justice minded people to support the ongoing work of the Contra Costa County Housing Our Future #Coalition. We are #hiring a Coalition Coordinator!
We are a coalition of #nonprofit leaders, #advocates, #organizers, and #publicsector staff in Contra Costa County. As a Coalition, we aim for:
-A true mass movement of Contra Costa County residents that commands the human right to affordable housing, centering the voices and needs of low-income vulnerable residents,
-And that tilts the political landscape of our County towards innovative housing development models that put people before profit; an expansion of tenant rights, resources, and power; meaningful and effectively-resourced policy and program implementation; and the treatment of housing as integral to our County’s public health, education, economic development, racial equity, and climate sustainability goals.
One of the most unexpected and exciting pieces of my Fellowship has been co-launching the Housing Our Future Coalition. Housing Our Future is a cross-sector group of Contra Costa County leaders commanding the human right to affordable housing. Our current focus is supporting the regional housing bond and shaping the bond implementation plan. We have secured funding for a Coalition Coordinator to continue convening and supporting this group post-Fellowship and are looking for a passionate leader and experienced bridge builder to take on this rewarding, important work. Please share widely and reach out to me with any questions!
