I just completed Morton Bay Regional Councils Careers In Tourism: Event Operations Job Simulation on Forage. In the simulation I: -Completed a job simulation that enabled me to explore what it’s like to work in event operations in the tourism industry. -Learned how to structure effective communications -Gained an understanding of the purpose of a Run Sheet and how to develop one. I found this extremely helpful and gained/developed new skills in; administrative skills, attention to detail, communication skills, critical thinking, high-level organisation skills, instruction comprehension and organisational skills.

February 2022 ➡️ Vice President of Community Development July 2024 ➡️ Director of Tourism I technically took a job title cut when I started my new position, and many might see this as a step backwards 🤷♀️. But sometimes, careers are like hiking a mountain trail. The path isn't always straight up—there are switchbacks and detours, but each step gets you closer to the summit. Titles look good, but experience is what gives you the tools to actually climb higher. When I became Director of Tourism, it wasn't a step back at all. I’m gaining so much—new experiences, new connections, and new opportunities for my community. I'm absolutely loving my new job and I've gained a priceless amount of knowledge in my first 3 months alone. We get too caught up in chasing big titles that don’t mean much. In reality, the focus should be on skills and experience if you want to have an impactful career. Interested to know your thoughts—would you take a job title 'cut' for a fresh learning experience?
