The culmination of 18 months' work and several projects alongside Ofcom: an outcomes bank to support organisations, educators, policymakers and researchers plan and measure media literacy initiatives.
Outcomes banks help organisations
- design projects with more focused, meaningful goals
- save time by giving them a starting point and ideas for measurement
- improve their evaluation through the use of more reliable measures
- better compare their results to different projects with different approaches
But there's not enough of them out there.
And the ones that are tend to be focused around more 'common' impact and intervention types (physical health, mental wellbeing etc.), rather than specialisms such as media literacy.
All of the Making Sense of Media Team's work in this sector suggests this new resource will help give people and organisations working in this sector a head start with their impact measurement - especially when used alongside Ofcom's evaluation toolkit that we published, tested and updated last year.

✨ Helping children, older adults and Disabled people build their online skills and knowledge.
Following a 14-month pilot, involving 13 organisations working with nearly 3,000 people across the UK, we have published guidance for anyone helping individuals and groups most at risk of online harm.
We found that organisations delivering these sessions should:
- Prioritise outreach and engagement plans.
- Build in digital literacy support if needed.
- Pilot activities with target groups to understand the range of needs.
We are proud to have worked with the 13 organisations who have helped inform our guidance and made a difference to vulnerable groups in their communities.
