With the rise of AI and the increasing availability of hacking tools, anyone can launch a cyber attack. Cyber threats can strike from anywhere and at any time, creating significant challenges for security leaders tasked with protecting their organizations. In this video, we'll walk you through a malicious file download attack from the perspectives of the attacker and the victim. Malicious file downloads are a common tactic cyber criminals used to breach networks. Hackers often deploy this technique through fishing. Emails, cloned websites, advertisements, and even instant messaging apps and SMS. Let's see how this attack unfolds and more importantly, how the Sangfor Cyber Guardian MDR team detects and responds to these threats in real time. On the left, the hacker is using Cobalt Strike as the command and control console, while the victim system is shown on the right with a fake Flash Player download page. The page shows little to no signs of being fake and successfully misleads the victim into downloading the file. Once the victim opens the file, a reverse connection will be established with the hackers machine. The connection has now been established, as shown in the Cobalt Strike console. At this point, the victim's machine has been compromised. To confirm the breach, the hacker runs a command that shows control over the admin account. A key point to note is that the victim's computer screen remains unchanged while the hacker operates in the background. Worryingly, this means the hacker can conduct malicious activities on the computer undetected while the employee continues their work completely unaware. The hacker executes a final file listing command to further verify the intrusion. Now let's see how Cyber Guardian MDR detects and responds to the attack.
