Are you willing to TAKE RISKS, or are you playing it safe in your job?
We had a lively discussion at our Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, Kellogg Executive Education session this week!
We explored the challenges of risk-taking and how vital it is for leaders to push beyond their comfort zones.
Many individuals are afraid of change.
It feels safer to stick with what they know.
Staying cozy can be very risky!
If you’re not willing to take risks, you’re not just standing still… you’re falling behind!
I've seen this play out in my own career.
The moments I grew the most weren’t the times I stuck to what was familiar.
They were the times I took a leap, embraced change, and accepted that failure might be part of the process.
Are you cozy, or are you ready to FLY!?

Dear Sanjay Khosla Sir,
Well said...
Took the leap of faith after 21 years at my previous company.
Yes, as you mentioned the initial phase may look critical but if you are firm & focus on the true north then many avenues can be achieved.
We used to quote this line regularly
"I may not succeed immediately but definitely"
Slow & steady will win eventually.
Thanks a lot for your wise words.
Have a great weekend ahead!
Kishan
Whether we're just starting out in our career or have years of experience, one thing is certain: growth happens when we push beyond our comfort zone. In a recent session with Professor Khosla, the class explored how important risk-taking is for career advancement. It’s tempting to stick with what we know, but staying in our comfort zone can hold us back more than we realize.
For those just starting out, it’s easy to fall into routine and avoid new challenges. The best opportunities often come when we step up and take a risk, whether it’s volunteering for a new project, proposing a bold idea, or finding a mentor. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but that’s where growth happens.
For seasoned professionals, it’s easy to get comfortable after years of success in our role. If we’re not pushing ourselves to take on new challenges and expand our network, we’re missing opportunities to grow. Taking risks might mean reaching out to new colleagues, exploring different departments, or stepping into leadership roles with daunting responsibilities. These new experiences and connections can open doors and move your career forward.
Professor Khosla makes it clear: staying in our comfort zone may seem safe, but it can be just as risky as taking a leap. If we're not moving forward, we're falling behind. The biggest moments of growth come from embracing change, accepting failure as part of the journey, and learning from it. It’s not always easy, but it’s the path to the most rewarding opportunities.
So, are you ready to take a risk? Whether you’re looking to climb the ladder, expand your network, or shift your career in a new direction, now’s the time to act.
Don’t just play it safe. Take the leap, embrace the challenge, and watch your career soar. You’ve got this!

Leadership is not something you’re born with; it’s something you learn and refine over time. From the first step of taking responsibility to the ongoing process of learning from challenges and successes, leadership is a journey that evolves with experience.
As businesses and communities continue to face new challenges, leadership is evolving to be more inclusive, adaptable, and emotionally intelligent. It's no longer just about directing others – it’s about inspiring, empowering, and guiding people to reach their fullest potential.
The modern leader is someone who leads with empathy, encourages innovation in a way that reflects the diversity and complexity of today’s world.

🌟 Unlocking the Leadership Journey! 🚀
Remembering back to my school days, I first learned about leadership in a Business Studies class during grade 11. Honestly, it seemed like a dull topic then. But later on, in the real world, I realized how important it is.
💼 Being a leader isn't just about giving orders. It's about helping your team, making tough choices, and keeping everyone motivated.
💡 Right now, as I embark on my first job, I've had the privilege of meeting truly amazing leaders. At first, I wondered how I could ever match their caliber. But I've come to learn that greatness isn't achieved overnight; it's a gradual process of learning and growth.
🌟 So here's to all the leaders out there, both seasoned and aspiring. Let's continue this journey together, empowering each other to reach greater heights and make a positive impact in our workplaces and communities.

Accountability without authority: The true test of leadership.
In today's fast-paced world, it's easy to get caught up in titles and positions. But true leadership isn't about wielding power; it's about inspiring others to greatness.
When you're accountable for a task without having the formal authority to command resources or dictate decisions, you're forced to rely on your influence, your relationships, and your ability to inspire. It's a challenging but rewarding experience that can bring out the best in you and those around you.
Have you ever faced a situation where you were held accountable for a goal but lacked the formal authority to achieve it? How did you overcome the challenge and what did you learn? I would love to hear from your experiences and gain insights

What does this tell us?
🛎 Managers are not being supported and led themselves.
Those managers don't know how to be great leaders because they don't have role models.
Most likely, they got into a leadership position without training and education.
🤷♀️ Leadership can be a very lonely and overwhelming place.
If managers don't ask for help or support, it doesn't mean they don't need it.
💫 Managers need coaching, mentoring and feedback from their leaders.

In a world where disruption is the new norm, it’s essential to continuously evolve as a leader—fostering resilience, driving strategic transformation, and empowering teams to thrive amid uncertainty.

Thrilled to share that I recently completed the PepsiCo Global GM Program at Yale University School of Management! 🎓🌍
It was an incredible experience to spend the past six months collaborating with and learning from academic leaders and fellow executives from diverse sectors within our PepsiCo business. The program’s focus on leadership, innovation, and strategic growth really challenged me to think differently about driving organizational success on both local and global scales.
A few of my key takeaways:
Global Perspectives: Understanding how to navigate complex, rapidly changing markets across different regions.
Sustainable Leadership: Strategies to balance profit and purpose, fostering long-term impact.
Innovation in Action: Insights into how cutting-edge companies are innovating to stay ahead.
I’m excited to bring these insights back to my team and continue driving success in a way that creates value both within and beyond the organization.
A big thank you to PepsiCo and the Yale School of Management for this amazing opportunity! 🚀
