🌱 DAY 17: ECO30 Sustainable Living Challenge - Volunteer for Sustainability Initiatives 🤝 "Volunteering for #sustainability #initiatives involves dedicating your time, skills, and energy to support projects and organizations focused on promoting #environmental #conservation, #sustainable #development, and #community #resilience." Let's roll up our sleeves and dive into today's challenge: volunteering for #sustainability #initiatives! By lending our time and talents to worthy causes, we can make a tangible difference in our communities and contribute to building a more sustainable and equitable world for all. Whether it's planting trees, cleaning up beaches, or advocating for #renewableenergy, volunteers play a crucial role in driving positive change and addressing pressing environmental challenges. On a personal note, I've had the privilege of volunteering for various initiatives, including serving as an assistant project at #Awareness360, advocating for #cleanwater and a #healthyenvironment. I also participated in the #ECO30 Sustainable Living Challenge in 2023 and am currently engaged in the 2024 edition. Additionally, I've been involved with #RecycleUP #Nigeria and other impactful organizations. Are you ready to take the challenge? Research local #sustainability #initiatives or organizations in your community that align with your interests and values. Look for opportunities to get involved in projects that resonate with you. Reach out to these organizations to express your interest in volunteering and inquire about upcoming opportunities or projects. Your enthusiasm and commitment can make a real difference in their efforts. Commit to volunteering for a #sustainability #initiative or event in the near future. Whether it's a beach cleanup, community garden project, or advocacy campaign, your contributions will have a lasting impact on our planet and future generations. Let's come together and be the change we wish to see in the world! 🌍💚 #ECO30Impact

We realized not only could we help outdoor gear continuously be recycled and put to use, but we also knew we could contribute to mother-nature in different ways by giving back and helping with conservation efforts. That's why our business model is setup to give back! 🌱 ⛰️ https://loom.ly/4hp6RkM Focusing on outdoor conservancy offers numerous benefits for businesses and communities. This includes outfits that do Environmental Impact, Economic Benefits, Corporate Social Responsibility, Employee Well-being, Regulatory Compliance, and Long-term Sustainability, among others. 🥾🎒 When you become part of the Nomadz community, you also start investing in our future. #differentway #nomadz #giveback #communities #environmental

Two weeks ago, I had the honour of stepping down as the president of the EcoVanguard Club UI, an NGO dedicated to environmental sustainability. Leading this organization has been a transformative experience, deepening my belief in the impact of volunteering and leadership. Volunteering is more than just an act of service; it's a commitment to creating a better world. When we volunteer for environmental causes, we become stewards of our planet, guardians of its beauty, and vitality. Here's why participating in such roles is essential: Protecting Our Planet: Every small action, from planting trees to cleaning up beaches, contributes to the fight against climate change and preserving biodiversity. Our planet needs us now more than ever. Building Communities: Volunteering unites us, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose. It's an opportunity to connect with passionate individuals who are dedicated to making a difference. Personal Growth: Engaging in volunteer work enriches our lives, broadens our perspectives, and hones our skills. It teaches us empathy, resilience, and the power of collective effort. Inspiring Change: By taking action, we inspire others to join the cause. Our efforts can create a ripple effect, encouraging more people to contribute to environmental sustainability. As I reflect on my time with EcoVanguard, I am filled with gratitude for the experiences and lessons learned. I am confident that the new executives will continue to lead with passion and dedication. My heartfelt regards to the new team Waleeyah Olalekan Mubarak Olapade – may your journey be as rewarding and impactful as mine has been. I encourage everyone to find a cause they are passionate about and get involved. Together, we can create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future. Let's be the change we wish to see in the world. #Volunteering #EnvironmentalSustainability #EcoVanguard #Community #MakeADifference #ClimateChange #Climate #WHO

Hey y'all! Let's talk about Community Building for Sustainability today. Building a strong community is like planting seeds in good soil—you nurture it, and it grows strong. 🌱 First tip: Get to know your neighbors! Building relationships with folks around you can lead to sharing resources, trading produce, and supporting each other in sustainable living practices. #CommunityBuilding #Sustainability #Neighbors Second tip: Organize community events like garden swaps, seed exchanges, or workshops on sustainable living. Bringing people together creates a network of support and shared knowledge that can benefit everyone. #CommunityEvents #ShareTheKnowledge #SupportEachOther Third tip: Collaborate on sustainable projects like community gardens, composting initiatives, or renewable energy installations. Working together towards common goals not only strengthens the community but also has a positive impact on the environment. #CollaborationForChange #SustainableProjects #GreenCommunity Let's grow together, y'all! 🌿💚

Are we doing enough to become a #SharingEconomy? Collaborative consumption is a term that marks a shift towards fusing #sustainability and #community in today’s fast-paced world. From car-sharing services reducing the need for personal vehicles to tool libraries making home improvement more accessible, the sharing economy is redefining how we use and value #resources. This movement isn't just about saving money; it's about fostering stronger community ties, promoting sustainable living, and minimising our environmental footprint. By choosing to #share rather than own, Australians are not only contributing to a greener planet but are also building a more connected and resilient #society. My hope is that we find increasing ways to grow this #sustainable economy, and more awareness creates more of a shift towards this mindset and practice.

I came away inspired by the #GreaterManchesterGreenSummit. There's real change on the horizon being spearheaded by our very own adopted Mancunian, Andy Burnham. For me, there were four standout takeaways from the day: 1️⃣ Retrofitting Scaling up retrofitting is a top priority - the 'retrofit revolution' was mentioned a few of times. This is because buildings, alongside transport, are our biggest sources of carbon emissions. Over the next five years, Greater Manchester aims to retrofit 60,000 homes, 11,000 commercial properties and hundreds of public buildings. It's a bold step towards energy-efficient, low-carbon living - and there's an awful lot of work involved - but it's much needed. 2️⃣ Nature The GM region is in a biodiversity crisis (as is the rest of the country). The first GM State of Nature report published earlier this year was depressing. Nature is being battered. There are plans (lots of plans) to improve nature but they need to be coordinated and actioned. There is hope though. We heard from three locals (representing organisations) who've received money from the 'Green Space Fund' - altogether 103 orgs have received funding here. Every one of the speakers was an inspiration and working hard to empower and transform their community. We need move of this. 3️⃣ People Environmental goals can’t be achieved without community buy-in. I used to think it could. It’s clear that we need to frame these changes around real benefits to people's lives - warmer homes, lower bills, healthier foods and better, greener local spaces. 4️⃣ Skills and Education The skills gap is a challenge, but also an opportunity. From retrofitting expertise to renewable energy careers, we need businesses and education providers to step up. I was inspired to hear from the children at St Margaret Mary’s primary school who’ve set up their own refill shop - there were loads of them involved and they all loved it. Not only doing something worthwhile and helpful, but they're building fantastic skills for the future. --- There's optimism there for what can be achieved when people, businesses and policymakers come together. What we need now more than ever is action. #GMGreenSummit #greenbusiness
