🎉 Excited to Share My Latest Achievement! 🎉 I recently completed the "User Experience: The Ultimate Guide to Usability and UX" course on Udemy, and I’m thrilled to share some key takeaways from this incredible learning journey. Before starting the course, I set clear goals for what I wanted to achieve, which helped guide my learning process. This approach ensured I stayed focused and gained maximum value. Here are a few insights that stood out to me: 1️⃣ The Importance of Usability is User Involvement: Usability thrives when users are at the center of the design process. This course emphasized that understanding the real user experience requires going beyond assumptions. 2️⃣ Contextual Inquiry is Invaluable: Observing users in the environment where they interact with a product is one of the most effective research methods. A powerful quote from instructor that stuck with me is: "The best way to conduct user research is to observe how people use the product, not to ask them what they want." This has transformed how I see the world—I’ve caught myself stopping in public places to "observe in context!" 3️⃣ Designing for One Persona While Accommodating Others: It’s impossible to design for everyone, but that doesn’t mean other personas are ignored. Instead, focus on satisfying one primary persona, then extend usability to others as best as possible. 4️⃣ Flexibility vs. Usability: Flexibility has its cost. While flexibility can add options, it may reduce overall usability. Balancing these is key in creating an intuitive design. 5️⃣ Paper Prototypes—A Game Changer: Creating my first paper prototypes was the highlight of the course. Initially, I underestimated their value compared to digital prototypes, but I quickly realized how much more revealing they can be. Simulating an experience in its real context, rather than behind a computer screen, is a completely different and insightful process. This course has been a stepping stone in my UX design journey, and I can’t wait to explore more, especially with paper prototyping!🙌 #UXDesign #UserExperience #Usability #ContextualInquiry #PaperPrototyping #LifelongLearning

❓If you were a designer starting their UX journey where would you turn for training/upskilling? I’ve been speaking with a few junior-mid designers recently - all digital natives who want to transition to a more product focused design career. Back in the day General Assembly would come up a lot in conversation when discussing UX courses. More recently CareerFoundry & Coursera have been bandied about. “I’m sure my network would have some brilliant recommendations”, I thought 💡 So over to you. Where would you signpost aspiring Product/UX designers in 2024? #uxdesign #productdesign #uxdesigncourses **please share recommendations in the comments 🙏🏼

This is such valuable advice for anyone looking to pivot into design, regardless of their age or background. The path into design isn’t linear, and that’s what makes it exciting. The key takeaway here is that your unique background—whether it’s in engineering, literature, psychology, or any other field—can be your superpower in design. It’s not about fitting into the traditional mold of what a designer “should” be. Instead, it’s about bringing your unique experiences and perspectives to the table. In a world where many designers have similar training, what sets you apart is your diverse skill set. Embrace your past expertise, whether it’s understanding human behavior from a novelist’s perspective or solving problems with an engineer’s mindset. By blending disciplines, you create a unique value proposition that can elevate the design process and lead to innovative solutions. Design is about making the world a better place, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to that. So if you’re thinking about making a career change into design, lean into what makes you different. Your distinct blend of skills might be exactly what the industry needs. #CareerPivot #DesignThinking #DiverseSkills #InnovationInDesign
