A clinical trial follow-up featuring patients with end-stage liver cirrhosis shows increased survival rates and fewer liver transplants in those treated with a new macrophage cell therapy. The results, from Institute for Regeneration and Repair spinout Resolution Therapeutics, will be presented today at the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) conference in Milan. Dr Susan Bodie, Edinburgh Innovations Head of Business Development for the College of Medicine & Veterinary Medicine, The University of Edinburgh Medicine, said: “The Resolution TX cell technology is a fantastic translation of academic research into a biotech environment where it can begin to make a difference. “Strong results like these show real promise of a treatment for patients who currently can only hope for a liver transplant and a life on immunosuppressants. In the lead-up to Bio Europe next week, I’m excited to continue spotlighting companies in the FutuRx portfolio ready to engage investors and partners. Following yesterday’s post on RNAble, today I’m delighted to feature Bsense Bio Therapeutics Ltd and pay tribute to the exquisite work of Haim Belinson and Adi Raveh.   Why are we excited about BSense? BSense’s ultra-potent optimized lead compound, with its excellent safety profile and exceptionally broad therapeutic window, has demonstrated outstanding in-vivo efficacy in treating osteoarthritis pain, complex regional pain, neuropathic pain, and post-surgical pain. It effectively addresses the limitations of standard-of-care treatments—such as risks of abuse and addiction and overcomes the challenges encountered in previous efforts to target each of the relevant ion channels, including liver toxicity (KV 7.2/3) and temperature sensitivity (TRPV1).   The MoA identified by BSense enhances potency only where both targets (Kv7.2/3 and TRPV1) are co-localized and active within the activated sensory neuron – inhibiting TRPV1 to suppress pain signal sensation and activating Kv7.2/3 to dampen sensory neuron hyperexcitability.   Bsense research and development has been validated by the NIH HEAL PSPP program and their story was recently published at @Pain, the Journal of the International Association for the Study of Pain. https://lnkd.in/dkhDbsDZ   A patent for the new chemical entity (novel small molecule) has entered national phase (PCT published WO2023/139581), and IND submission is anticipated in Q1 2026. I'm thrilled to share that the #CPAD Tau PET Harmonization Working Group's milestone achievement, a culmination of efforts during my tenure as Executive Director of the Alzheimer's disease consortium (#CPAD) at Critical Path Institute (C-Path), in collaboration with Antoine Leuzy and Lars Lau Raket, has been published in Alzheimer's and Dementia, the official journal of the Alzheimer's Association®.
