🌍🔍 Exploring State Violence in Narcotic Drug Governance 🔍🌍 I'm pleased to share my article, "State Violence in Narcotic Drug Governance: A Call for Harm Reduction and Human Rights Protection," published in the Journal of Perpetrator Research. This piece is relevant for scholars in International Relations and criminology , human rights advocates, civil society activists. It delves into the state's role as a collective perpetrator in global narcotic regulation, shedding light on how state violence and militaristic drug policies disproportionately affect marginalized communities. Key insights include: State Monopoly on Force: Examines how the state's near-exclusive control over the use of force leads to increased civilian fatalities and physical integrity rights abuses. Structural Inequalities: Analyzes how socioeconomic inequalities and systemic discrimination are integral to the perpetuation of state violence and the spread of narcotic drugs. Impact on Marginalized Communities: Highlights the disproportionate targeting and impact on minoritized groups by coercive state agencies. Policy Implications: Stresses the urgent need for harm reduction strategies and human rights protections to replace punitive, militaristic approaches in narcotic governance. This article is part of my ongoing book project on dehumanization and the global war on drugs. I wrote large parts of this current book project during my 2022 fellowship at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIAS-KNAW) 📄 Read the full and open-access article here: https://lnkd.in/eW77ZYaD #HumanRights #DrugPolicy #StateViolence #HarmReduction #SocioeconomicInequality #PerpetratorStudies #Research #PolicyChange #WarOnDrugs
