The objectives are to:  ·                 seek feedback from developers on the main challenges and barriers currently encountered from early development to access,  ·                 provide insights on scientific and regulatory advice tools available to innovative developers at European and national level,  ·                 discuss opportunities for promoting mutual exchange and interactions between stakeholders with the aim of strengthening the European innovation ecosystem.    The meeting will provide an open forum for discussion with a view to raising awareness of existing initiatives, as well as identifying further actions that could help to foster collaboration between stakeholders and ultimately facilitate patient access to safe and effective ATMPs.    𝐕𝐢𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬. On December 5 in Brussels, the 8th Multistakeholder Event on biosimilars took place, with the participation of Agencja Oceny Technologii Medycznych i Taryfikacji as part of the #AUGMENT Biosimilars consortium, implementing the recently launched an EU4Health biosimilar capacity-building project. 🌍💉 The project aims to encourage biosimilar uptake through a comprehensive multi stakeholder approach by generating evidence, enhancing knowledge, and building capacity. 📚🔬   The event aimed for mixed participation of key stakeholder groups, which may be represented by European competent authorities, health service providers, patient and civil societies, pharmaceutical industry, academics as well EU and international institutions (#WHO, #OECD). 🤝🏥   During this meeting Elżbieta Kuriata, Ph.D. presented the preliminary results of the work carried out by #AOTMiT. Don’t miss WEP’s Head of Expanded Access Strategy, Ana Paula Tediosi, speaking at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting, as part of a panel discussion being held at the Health Equity Lounge @ Davos, in January 2025. Together with representatives from NGOs (including Partners For Patients NGO), policymakers, and the pharmaceutical industry, Ana will co-chair this panel. The speakers will address the challenges pharmaceutical companies and regulators face in providing access to innovative medicines through compassionate use and expanded access programs to patients in low- and middle-income countries and explore strategies to surmount these obstacles.   Panel summary: Compassionate use represents a critical treatment pathway, permitting access to unapproved medications for life-threatening conditions when no other options exist. Under stringent conditions, investigational drugs may be made accessible to patient groups lacking satisfactory authorized treatments and ineligible for clinical trials, offering them a potential lifeline.
