Today's video focuses on the RED state – a state of immobilization when the fight or flight response is insufficient to address perceived threats. This state, governed by the dorsal vagal process, prepares the body for death, or the possibility of survival based on 'disappearing' through mechanisms like feigning death or shutting down in the face of insurmountable danger. In this extreme survival strategy, our body conserves energy to the utmost, significantly reducing functions like blood flow to the brain, digestion, immunity, and reproduction. It's a physiological response to the most severe threats, where the body opts for immobilization as a form of protection. This state can leave us feeling numb and hopeless, overshadowing our inner light and authentic Self. By exploring the RED state, we gain insight into the body's complex survival mechanisms and the profound impact they have on our mental and physical health. 👋🏻 Hey there! I recently completed a 6 mo. Polyvagal Informed Practice training program with renowned expert, Deb Dana. 💥 Here's what I learned... 💡 We see the world through our nervous systems. 💡 To change the stories we tell ourselves, we need to first change our nervous system state. 💡 Every nervous system is working in service of survival and is longing to connect. 💡 Our nervous systems are constantly scanning the environment for cues of safety or danger. 💡 When the cues of safety > the cues of danger, we are able to connect to others as well as access our full brain function. 💡 When cues of danger > cues of safety, we shift into closed protection mode & lose the ability to connect or access our executive brain, creativity etc. 💡 By getting to know, and befriending our nervous systems we CAN shift that equation, learn to regulate, build resilience, play bigger, and live richer, fuller lives. What I would give to have had this information growing up & throughout my career in tech! To understand that my reactions were just my biology trying to keep me safe & that I could shift the equation... When we can see our nervous system at work as a survival mechanism, it takes so much shame out of our experience. And when we can learn how to send ourselves cues of safety, and decrease the "false alarm" cues of danger - we truly can shift our lived experience. ✨ This is some serious superpower stuff. ✨ I am so grateful to Dr Stephen Porges & Deb Dana for bringing this important work into the world & sharing their brilliance with us. #polyvagaltheory #nervoussystem #stressmanagement #burnout #burnoutprevention #nervoussystemregulation #leadershipcoaching #executivecoaching #selfmanagement #personaldevelopment #coachingleaders #polygvagalinformed #resilience #burnout

Yes, once in a while there’s something we can learn in less than 30 seconds that can have a real impact on our mental health. Not a miracle, but understanding the three levels of control can be a great basis for how to triage stress management. Reality Meets Science® #Flex5Lifestyle #Flex5MindMatters

In this video, we talk about The Inner Critic Judge vs. a Healthy Conscience. 🌟 An unhealthy inner judge attacks our worth when we fall short of our own standards, while a healthy one acts like a supportive coach—encouraging growth, learning, and trying new things. Being discerning is essential, but moral judgment on our worth is something entirely different. Understanding this distinction can make all the difference. 💡 Ready to transform your inner dialogue and stay connected to your healing journey?
