I previously posted about the top 20 desires of founders and entrepreneurs. Attracting the right people to be able to scale at pace was in the top five. What can you do to better attract the talent you need? First of all, it's not just about how you advertise the role. Many people approach recruitment from a perspective of screening and selecting and making applicants demonstrate why they should give them a job. Not only is this outmoded, it's inefficient, and rarely leads to good retention. It often leads to offers of employment being declined too. Before you advertise, you need to think about what's on offer for the candidate. You may have heard about EVP (Employee Value Proposition) and it largely boils down to answering a few simple questions: ❓ Why would somebody who is relatively happy where they are want to come and work for you? ❓ What are you offering that makes it an attractive prospect for them? ❓ So what? For every "benefit" you come up with, ask yourself what this means to a potential employee. Put yourself in their shoes and ask yourself "so what?" For example: "We're building a really exciting solution to XYZ and have big plans!" So what? Is it "so I can earn loads of money and stroke my ego and you get to work your ass off and bask in reflected glory", or "so you can be part of driving the growth, develop personally and professionally through the process, and get some equity shares, while saving the planet/improving social equality/feeding the poor..."? While it is certainly possible to find people who will share you vision, and even your passion, you have to remember that this business is YOUR baby, not theirs. Don't expect people to be super excited about your idea unless they can also see how it, and their involvement, will satisfy their needs too. Be it for challenge, adventure, bringing order to chaos, delivering growth, or whatever their 'bag' is. Start-up business owners often fall into the trap of thinking they can't offer good salaries. You often have the flexibility to offer more things that are of value to the right people for a start-up environment. They crave a vibrant company culture, opportunities for growth, and a sense of purpose. While salaries don't have to be HUGE to attract the right talent, they do have to be competitive. A shit salary and promise of pizza on a Friday isn't going to cut it. Think about perks that won't cost you a lot of money but can be highly valued by individuals: flexible working arrangements; profit and performance related bonuses (even for roles that aren't traditionally remunerated in this way); private healthcare and wellbeing options. 🌟 Pro Tip: Showcase your company's mission and values on your job adverts. Share stories that highlight purpose, achievements, and community involvement. Give potential candidates a glimpse of the exciting journey they could be a part of. Don't Hire a Broke Person. https://lnkd.in/d_Tya6NM People mistake hunger for passion, a desire to feed the belly as motivation to work but those factors, though often feel and look alike are very different. The motivation that comes from the want to feed your belly can be easily quenched but if it’s in your soul, it takes a lifetime of searching to fill that. It is very important that founders and potential employers vet their hires properly, put mechanisms in place to gauge their motivations and make sure the drive is right. Don’t get me wrong, are all desperate people poor hires? Absolutely not, the contrary, in fact. More often than not, those who have carried an empty belly often fill it with desire to not go back but then, it is on the employer to ensure the right passion is in place. https://lnkd.in/d_Tya6NM Now the age-old question- “How?” Having dealt with the “why?”, the “how” becomes a little easier to track. First, engage the potential employer beyond their shiny CV and polished tongue. The old school style of recruitment will no longer suffice. Technology is changing rapidly, the mode of work too so, why should the mode of staffing stay the same? https://lnkd.in/d_Tya6NM It is important that potential employees are vetted, probed and nudged to reveal their values, desires and motivations. Also worthy of note, just because a person walks in with the wrong motivation does not mean they cannot be refined or they’re beyond redemption, potentials get extracted every day and a good business builder must have eyes for talent even when the person carrying it don’t know it yet.

"Don't hire anyone who wants to be an entrepreneur"🚫 I recently stumbled upon this advice from an influencer, I couldn't disagree more. People who dream of starting their own business can be great employees. They often have good ideas and work hard. They can help make a company better. Some people think these employees will leave quickly, but that's not always true. Many enjoy their jobs and learn a lot from them. Lots of big companies like it when workers think like entrepreneurs. This way of thinking has led to new products that make money. It's not smart to turn away good workers just because they might want to start a business someday. People's goals change over time. Today's worker could become a helpful business partner later. When hiring, it's better to look at skills and if the person fits well with the company. Don't worry so much about their future plans. Changing Landscape of #LinkedIn: More Recruiters, Fewer Job Seekers I’ve always been inclined towards researching and analyzing various trends, and lately, I've noticed an interesting shift on LinkedIn—there seem to be more recruiters than job seekers. This observation got me thinking about the underlying reasons, and after exploring several articles and conducting my own research, here’s what I've discovered: Short-Lived Ventures :- Around 63% of professionals are opting to establish their own businesses after gaining an average of 18 months of experience. However, 87% of these businesses shut down within a year, primarily due to a lack of revenue, inadequate management skills, and poor cash flow. I’m not suggesting that you shouldn't start a business, but it’s essential to approach it with proper knowledge, planning, and strategic execution. Talent Vs Compensation Mismatch :- If your compensation exceeds your skills, it could eventually lead to setbacks. For example, if someone’s salary increased from 5 lakh per annum in 2022 to 15 lakh per annum now, their lifestyle and expenses often rise accordingly—installments on luxury cars, expensive homes, etc. Over time, the company might reassess your value and ask for a pay cut or termination, leading to a fall. Instead of constantly switching companies or industries for a higher salary, focus on enhancing your skills and talents. Timing Is Everything :- Everyone has dreams, but achieving them requires the right timing. In today's world, it can seem both easy and challenging to sustain a business. It all depends on your approach and execution as an individual. The Fact of Startups :- Startups are booming, but finding good talent is becoming increasingly rare. Don’t be surprised if I tell you that over 90% of startup founders are either struggling to survive or earning less than their previous salaries. Beyond Just Money :- In today’s era, money alone is not enough to start a business. Success is more likely when you combine wisdom, financial resources, and effective execution. #Hardworking And Improvement on skills will make you superior.

Focus not on the pitfalls, but on the endless possibilities awaiting your bold step forward. No one will believe in you more than you. 5️⃣ Embrace the mantra: just start. Take that first leap, no matter how small, and watch as your journey unfolds. Dont get down in the weeds with all the small details. Do first think later. The path to entrepreneurship is paved with uncertainty, but within that uncertainty lies boundless opportunity. Seize it.
