Will your products or purchases require a Digital Product Passport (DPP) as a result of proposed EU legislation: Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation? DPPs are expected to be mandated between 2026-30 in the 27 EU member states. They are required for all products sold in the EU regardless of where they are produced. Products with a high environmental impact will be prioritized such as: textiles, furniture, chemicals, batteries, consumer electronics, electronic devices, construction products. The DPP is designed to meet the growing demand for transparency from stakeholders, with standardised information about a product's lifecycle, from origin to disposal, replacing current Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. #sustainableprocurement #publicprocurement #ecolabel #EU

The EU Parliament has voted in favor of a regulation according to which unsold clothing can no longer be destroyed and unsold electrical goods should no longer be destroyed. The Ecodesign Regulation in the EU was confirmed yesterday. These are great news, specially for those countries the EU and USA companies use as trash can. The new legal framework stipulates that products should last longer, be easier to reuse, repair and recycle and use fewer resources such as energy and water. The new EU Regulation on #ecodesign, effective from July 18, introduces requirements for ecodesign and #DigitalProductPassport, focusing on key product groups starting in 2025. As a professional in #circulareconomy policy, I find this both exciting and slightly unbelievable—monitoring its implementation will be crucial. Key takeaways: • Principles for product lifecycle improvement: durability, reliability, reusability, upgradability, repairability, efficiency in water and energy use, recyclability, and recycled content. • Digital Product Passport: Products must have a DPP with a unique identifier to be placed on the EU market. A registry will ensure public access to all product identifiers. • Prioritized product groups: iron and steel, aluminium, textiles, furniture, tyres, detergents, paint, lubricants, chemicals, energy-related products, and ICT. • Green public procurement shall be provided with minimum ecodesign requirements and weighting of 15-30% in awarding processes. Hooray for circularity!! 📈 Yesterday, the EU Parliament confirmed a significant update: unsold clothing and electronics can no longer be destroyed, aligning with the Ecodesign Regulation's principles. ---> yay to resource recirculation! 📅MPs in Strasbourg voted to ban the destruction of unsold goods, emphasizing the importance of reuse, repair, and recycling. ✅ The ESPR builds on the success of the existing Ecodesign Directive, extending its scope beyond energy-related products to cover almost all physical goods. ✅This regulation aims to enhance the circularity, energy performance, and overall environmental sustainability of products in the market. ✅ It sets requirements for product durability, reusability, energy efficiency, recycled content, and more, paving the way for a greener future. ✅ The introduction of the Digital Product Passport will provide easy access to vital environmental information, empowering consumers and businesses to make informed choices. By 2030, the ESPR could lead to massive primary energy savings, equivalent to nearly EU's annual import of Russian gas. Tough new packaging regulations are on the horizon for Australian businesses. And insiders are claiming that Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) will be the central framework for these impending regulations, which Tanya Plibersek announced last year. EPR is a policy approach in which producers are held accountable for the entire lifecycle of their products, especially at the end-of-life. This means producers are responsible for collecting, recycling, or disposing of products after consumer use. With EPR legislation, the aim is to incentivise producers to design products that are easier to recycle, reuse, or repair, thereby reducing waste and promoting a shift towards a circular economy. Australian businesses will have to become a fast study on the concept and its implications, so we've pulled together an EPR 101 for our latest blog post around what this means for Australian businesses, how they can navigate new regulations and leverage strategic opportunities. EU regulation changes are aiming to a market full of more sustainable products. 📝 On the 18th of July, steps were taken for the introduction of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR). This is an expansion on the Ecodesign Directive by broadening its reach to a wider range of products, while also enforcing stricter ecodesign standards in manufacturing. 2️⃣ Things to take note of: 1. The ESPR is specific and requirements will vary depending on the product category. 2. Businesses selling products in the EU will need to comply with the ESPR to avoid penalties. #sustainability #espr #ecodesign #europeanunion #circulareconomy #greenproducts #futureofbusiness source: 👇 linked in the comments

🔋 New European regulations on batteries: a step towards a circular economy 🔄 Directive 2008/98/EC, known as the Waste Framework Directive, aimed to minimize the negative impacts of waste production and management on human health and the environment. 🌍 Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, adopted on July 12, 2023, brought several major changes compared to the previous directive, including: 1️⃣ Expanded scope: The regulation applies to all categories of batteries, regardless of their characteristics. 🔋 2️⃣ Circular economy: The regulation aims to establish a specific circular economy for batteries, in order to reduce environmental and social impacts throughout the battery life cycle. 🔄 3️⃣ Sustainability requirements: The regulation establishes mandatory requirements for sustainability, safety, and labeling for the marketing and commissioning of batteries. 🌱 4️⃣ End-of-life management: The regulation introduces requirements for end-of-life management of batteries. ♻️ 5️⃣ Direct application: Unlike European directives which require a transposition law to be applicable at the national level, regulations are directly applicable. ⚖️ These changes aim to promote a circular economy by regulating batteries throughout their life cycle. 🔄 In addition, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 introduced specific requirements for CE marking of batteries. CE marking is now required for the marketing or commissioning of batteries within the European Union. This ensures that batteries comply with the new requirements for sustainability, safety, labeling, and information. ✔️ The assessment of conformity and CE marking of batteries is generally carried out by notified bodies. As a manufacturer, you have the responsibility to declare that the product complies with all applicable requirements at the EU level. 🏭 These new regulations strengthen the internal market by ensuring fair competition conditions thanks to a common set of rules, promote the circular economy, and reduce environmental and social impacts throughout the life cycle of batteries. 🌍🔄 #batteries #circulareconomy #sustainability #DNV
